We have an immediate need for an RPG proofreader. This is a paid gig, proofing just over 11,000 words. Experience is preferred.

Please email jon@handiwork.games with your resume and rate. If you don't have a set rate that's fine - we can talk.

Please feel free to share, tag and recommend.

Necronauts, Rogue Scientists fixing the Gates of Death (a Blades in the Dark Crewsheet)

Maybe you don't want to play scoundrels engaging in activities that are criminal in the real world but maybe in a world this broken, only scoundrels could hope to fix things.

Tip for inexperienced #ttrpg writers: Your book is going to be used many ways—for learning the system, as a reference at the table, just as a fun read, etc. It’s best when to cater to all of those uses.

D&D has evolved from/to:
• Tactical fantasy exploration
• Generic heroic elf/dwarf/magic/fighting RPG
• Romance superhero elf/dwarf/magic RPG

None of those are my thing. If one of them is, then have fun playing a D&D.

“No, Mr. Bond, infinitely worse than that…”

Designing in layout is the Way.
I finished the first full rules pass on this today. Next up is stress testing the space combat, and making a character sheet!

(You may not believe it, but this is how I design. Got to see the whole thing on the page to make it work.)
Boundless Space: Making the scary monsters of the Eridani Belt today. I'm thinking that space combat will be much like normal conflict in Boundless, but with the addition of vast space ranges, multiple actions for a crewed ship, and of course, torpedoes and boarding!

I think The Elusive Shift might be the Understanding Comics of RPGs.

Or actually sort of the opposite? Not "Let me explain comics," but "let me explain why you can't explain RPGs."

He was fricking amazing in that role.
I asked the Internet why I was so baffled to learn that Japanese cinema titan Tatsuya Nakadai had only now died, at age 82, and it told me that he was 51 when he did the Lear role in Ran.

This is the stupidest "problem" imaginable.

New Bond shows up, kills some dudes in a cool way (escrima with a rolled up newspaper maybe)

CUT TO credit sequence, naked silhouette ladies etc

MONEYPENNY: "Back from holiday early, 007?"

BOND: "Couldn't stay away from you"

Etc.
James Bond’s death in No Time to Die is causing a nightmare for the next film. Writers are stuck because Bond “was blown to pieces.”

Anthony Horowitz, author of three 007 novels, says:

“You can't have him wake up in shower and saying it was all a dream."

I've gone on a TTRPG reading splurge. Come to the conclusion: TTRPG hobby in 2025: we don’t have “a game,” we have a backlog. Steam, but for feelings. We run a campaign, think seriously about a second, & own PDFs for about forty-seven more we “might” play when time and friends stop being finite. 1/8

I was pretty suspicious of what Canva would do with Affinity, but the new app opens complex Publisher files perfectly and seems to have no missing features. And the UI is almost the same. And it's free.

Cautiously optimistic.

Cold City (2e): first impressions after a quick read.

Rules-light chassis with a GM dice economy for pacing:

d10 opposed pools, 1950 Berlin pressure cooker, Trust & Hidden Agendas fuel classy spy-betrayal, and fallout is tracked as Consequences.

Here’s what jumped out at me: (1/14)

They've announced that Affinity is now free, except for generative AI tools which are walled behind a Canva subscription. Which seems really good:
www.affinity.studio

Like "You can eat anything from the garden, but if you'd like to sample the wares from underneath the outhouse... that'll cost ya"
Affinity (which offers alternatives to photoshop and indesign) has turned off the ability to buy their software on their website.

They're touting some big reveal at the end of the month, though shutting off sales of their product for a month is... an interesting choice.
