Ass. Provost for Faculty Affairs and Undergraduate Education, Prof. of Political Science at UMass Dartmouth; State legislatures & state politics are my jam. "Serious demonic danger to society"
Got a professional job out of undergrad that required me to dress up and wear pantyhose. Realized I needed a job where I wouldn't have to wear pantyhose. Went back to grad school and never looked back. I don't own pantyhose any more.

This aligns with our experience with how frequently folks misgender our pets. They always assume the cat is a girl and the dog is a boy when it's the opposite.
What gender are anthromorphized animals in childrens' books?

As someone who’s been a Democrat for only six weeks, I think this is such an important point. We’re either a big tent, or we aren’t. And if we are a big tent, that means progressives unite around a moderate nominee, and moderates unite around a progressive nominee. Period.👇

I've been lucky enough to to receive two Fulbrights. They transformed my life and the lives of my children. I've taught hundred of students from other countries. We have friends around the world now. IMO Fulbright is one of the most effective soft diplomacy programs out there.
I was once seated at a dinner beside Fulbright's widow, and told her that I'd met my American wife thanks to my Fulbright fellowship. She said he had told her that that kind of thing was the reason he'd set up the program - unanticipated relationships that would knit the world together better.

I was in a meeting the other day, & folks said: no need to worry, these are just executive orders. I nearly melted down. The distinction between an e.o. & enacted legislation only matters if everyone respects the rule of law & the Constitution. It's very clear the Trump administration does not.

The demise of our democracy accelerates. A President who ignores the will of Congress and the judicial branch is unconstrained by the rule of law.
“NSF has received an email from its director to ignore the judge's stay of Trump's order and implement the spending pause.”

We live in a center-left country with a democracy problem.
Two-thirds of Americans are against laws that would limit transgender rights, a new PBS NewsHour/NPR/Marist poll found. That opposition includes majorities of every political ideology from liberal to conservative and every age group.
A majority of the U.S. public supports laws that protect trans adults against discrimination in several areas, from housing to health care. Support for these policies also holds ACROSS party lines.

There has to be a better way with wait times at doctor appts. I get that doctors run late, but can't they notify me when they're running late so I don't burn my time off?
