This is absolutely been my experience.
Tried to find a decent scheduling/productivity app about 6 months ago and I just could not find anything that was the way I liked it and they all had some ridiculous subscription.
Who wants to pay $15 a month to use a calendar????

With the holidays this really speaks to me.
I'm reminded of the last Thanksgiving that I had: we finished eating & I remember our hosts packing up to go camp out for Black Friday. After we drove 2 hours to see them.
I remember this deep sadness inside me.
I only now realize I feel it a lot. 😮💨

I have always been overweight person and never really minded. It happened so young I don't even particularly feel I had much agency.
So now that C-PTSD has gone the other way and I cannot eat I cannot tell you how frustrating it is how much people think "you've lost weight" is safe to say.

If we could have an open discussion we could get past the bullshit but people are afraid to speak out.
Artists feel like they'll be eaten alive for admitting to use assistive tech.

AI (machine learning, really) has been integrated into software for years. Match Font and Generative Fill in Photoshop, or Alexa's ASR model. Even most LLM usage is invisible. There might be a backlash against specific companies, but most ML has been, and will be, accepted because it's invisible.
it's normatively bad in many ways and also clearly useful for millions of people. it can run on a laptop, thinking that it's going away is cope. gotta engage with the world at it is.
