Dick Cheney helped plow and pave the road to Hell we’re currently traveling down. Iraq, Afghanistan, oil dependence, executive overreach, torture and black sites, consolidation of wealth, use of racist and flagrantly false propaganda to achieve policy goals - his fingerprints are on all of it.

I saw THE WAR GAME many years ago in a JUCO film class and man, not just the story of how this was made but the unrelenting ferocity of the film is shattering even by today’s standards. RIP Peter Watkins.

Caught up with ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER last night.

Yes! Absolutely yes!

And it’s growing on me the more I sit with it.

The Last of the Mohicans turns 33 today.

Epic romance. Ferocious action. Pure Michael Mann.

Every. Fucking. Word. Of. This.
I mostly stopped debating online years ago because I no longer care to determine if someone is engaged in either willful ignorance or malicious bad faith.
The Dipshit Paradox

"Good faith requires an assumption of both awareness and good intent—yet some propositions are so divorced from reality that assuming good intent means also assuming unawareness, while assuming awareness means also assuming bad intent."

The Dipshit Paradox
Profoundly ignorant? Deliberately malicious and lying? Does it matter? The demand to engage in good faith with supremacists in a musky age.

Anything we do has to include breaking up corporate and media monopolies. The tools are there to dismantle this horseshit, you just have to find the people willing to use them.

So I went to see THE LONG WALK last night and…

… BLUNT with its violence and circunstances.

Cooper Hoffman and David Jonsson are so great as the leads (all the actors are terrific tbh), that your heart breaks for all of them. Really really good, but not for the faint of heart.

One of these rich dudes invested in a food company with all proceeds going to kids in need. The other started Sundance Institute, boosting the lives of countless artists. Hey modern rich dudes, don't be a typical greedy AI crypto-prick, be like these two.

I really think today’s best option is to lose myself in an endless repeat of the superposse sequence in BUTCH CASSIDY AND THE SUNDANCE KID.

Also, horror films are often among the first statements of any major oncoming cultural or social shift BECAUSE they have so much space for imagination, innovation, and interpretation.
Doesn’t matter how many great horror movies get made, doesn’t matter how many times they’ve saved the theatrical movie business since Covid…the genre still can’t get any respect. The “it’s not a horror movie” crowd is always there. This includes filmmakers who can’t admit they made a horror movie.
The reason Sinners is so good is that it’s not a horror movie. It is a film about the Black experience, and the immigrant experience in America. It tells the story of marginalized peoples and uses vampires as allegory to tell that story. It is SO much more than a “vampire movie.”

One of the best ongoing jokes from OUT OF TIME is Carl Franklin owning Dean Cain by casting him as he really was without Cain ever realizing it. 🤣

I find it interesting that a recurring idea in both SINNERS and WEAPONS is the antagonists needing to be allowed/invited into spaces by otherwise well meaning people who just want to avoid conflict when it’s patently obvious the person should not be treated with good faith.
