Bill Mont, one of Halifax’s legendary characters, has died at 96. Bill was one of the “characters” who helped me bring to life everyday life in Halifax during World War II in my book, Sailors, Slackers and Blind Pigs: Halifax at War. Some excerpts:

It occurs to me that Canada could insist that a portion of telecom corporate profits need to be redirected into local news. Rogers, BCE, Quebecor, Telus ... redistribute the wealth they make off charging us globally high telecom fees.
