Every year I rewatch the Christmas Inheritance solely for the scene where the presumptive heir to a gift giving corporation looks at, what is genuinely one of the worst drawings of santa of all time, and says "hey this could be really worth something"

You lot need Dick Van Dyke singing Let's Go Fly a Kite on his 100th birthday more than you know.

BJ Novak articulated this brilliantly in the Office Ladies podcast and it stuck with me. We have a tendency to showcase the showy and underappreciate those who don't call attention to their skillset, and I think you can connect the dots between that and the assault on creativity in the AI slop era.

My Mum lives next to a patch of green grass that always had kids out playing football on it, at some point the ball went into the neighbours garden and they complained to the Council and now no more kids playing on the grass.
These structural and infrastructural issues are intertwined with cultural concerns which see acceptance and permission for play in public declining, despite children’s right to play in public space.

I have a vivid memory of some important note being written on a post-it and stuck onto a file, to then float off the file slowly to the floor as the person left the ward, so I'm honestly surprised this is only 1 in 4.

And for all the "well, why did you make that information public, then" folks, in many cases, you didn't.

Other people may post your information, photos, etc. Apps may collect way more than you realize. Data brokers are collecting your data from EVERYWHERE and making inferences.

This is a sewing pattern. It is also a page from a late 14th century manuscript that is one of two primary sources for an important Icelandic saga (Sturlunga saga), but that was probably not important to the 17th century person who really needed a sewing pattern.

One of the highlights of last year's trip to New York. See it in London if you get the chance!

Social interactions are good, actually. Someone tell the Silicon Valley bros.
I had a couple of things to get at the store and there was a human checkout free so I went through it, made pointless small talk and made my day better. I’m so tired of automated checkouts

Tried to find out the date I went to see Wicked in December 2006 and discovered that I took the overnight Megabus from Glasgow-London twice in three days to see it. The energy of youth! I will be seeing Wicked at the nearest cinema at a 6pm screening so it finishes at a decent time.
