Lord, what fools these mortals be!
@nordvpn.bsky.social your recent change to not let me turn off connection for more than one hour means I close the application instead. Annoying and less protection. If you sorted out all the sites that block you, that I use regularly, we could have a conversation #justsayin

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

Personally I'm just glad Obama didn't win the Nobel Prize for Medicine. Imagine what Trump would be willing to do to win that.

seeing a few "what's going on???" posts from MAGA on the "other site" in reaction to polls and election results. It's almost as if a party that won with less than 50% of the vote, and then governs with extreme policies it barely ran on, is going to hit the rocks of reality fast?

The jeans/genes ad. So I looked at Twitter. There were 6 tweets on 7/26 against the search Sydney Sweeney Nazi. There were very many on 7/27, but by then there were already a very large number of "look at the dumb libtards" reactions to the "reaction".

Was this 80+% astroturfed?

Very sad to hear the news, but I guess all the pigeons in all the parks will be feeling just a little safer today.

#AI for most LLMs today long form inputs are encouraged AND carriage returns are treated as "enters."

I wouldn't mind the fat finger problem with my AI inputs, if the product hadn't ALSO made it impossible for me to interrupt the AI's output.

proposed definition: "Provocative platforming": when media amplifies the most extreme voices from the opposing side, then encourages audiences to assume these fringe positions represent mainstream opposition.

Trump admits the Miller's deportations are bad economically and harming industries populated with immigrant workers. So, stop the deportations.
Every prominent Democrat in the country should jump on this immediately. Enough bullshit cowering on this issue. Get on this! Trump just handed you a massive weapon. Use it!
Trump just admitted that his mass deportations are bad for farmers and the economy, and crucially, also admitted that workers who are getting deported are "almost impossible to replace." That's a massive repudiation of MAGA ideology:

There's not much point is telling protesters to "do it nicely" Malcolm X: The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses…

This is a superb speech by @governor.ca.gov just now.

Clear. Strong. Simple. Direct. Angry—in a way that appeals to the best in people, not the worst. Seven plus minutes of the most effective rhetoric in response to Trump.

This is how you want a leader to talk.

So... Rather than focusing on what may well turn out to be the real issue, that the President tried to do a thing (doesn't matter what) that he cannot, everyone focused on *what* he tried to do. Like focusing on Ben Johnson's 100 meters time, without even thinking the big story, his use of drugs.

I was going to make a pithy, cogent, and well-reasoned comment on the Merits of the Issue, but I realized that both the merits, and (bizarrely) the issue will likely be completely different tomorrow, so I don't really see the point tbh.
