I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections

Personally I'm just glad Obama didn't win the Nobel Prize for Medicine. Imagine what Trump would be willing to do to win that.

seeing a few "what's going on???" posts from MAGA on the "other site" in reaction to polls and election results. It's almost as if a party that won with less than 50% of the vote, and then governs with extreme policies it barely ran on, is going to hit the rocks of reality fast?

Trump just admitted that his mass deportations are bad for farmers and the economy, and crucially, also admitted that workers who are getting deported are "almost impossible to replace." That's a massive repudiation of MAGA ideology:

So... Rather than focusing on what may well turn out to be the real issue, that the President tried to do a thing (doesn't matter what) that he cannot, everyone focused on *what* he tried to do. Like focusing on Ben Johnson's 100 meters time, without even thinking the big story, his use of drugs.

I was going to make a pithy, cogent, and well-reasoned comment on the Merits of the Issue, but I realized that both the merits, and (bizarrely) the issue will likely be completely different tomorrow, so I don't really see the point tbh.
