Watching PBS’s “American Masters” series. Finished Art Spiegelman’s “Disaster is My Muse” yesterday. Today, watching Toni Morrison’s “The Pieces I Am”. Powerful stuff.

What have I been doing away from social media and news of the incessant onslaught of horrors? Nearly completed one story, revamped another, and in a week, I’ll have another done. Brain is feeling like mush after writing for 8 hours straight today, but dammit, I want my work to exist in the world. ✨

NEW POEM is finally out at @strangehorizons.bsky.social! It's called "The Witch is My Mother, The Witch is My Prince"; a darker take on Snow White. I wrote it in the throes of a broken heart, where I honestly felt, at last, relinquished to the abyss of myself, and truly alone. Please give it a read!

“I waited for your kiss,
inside the dank carapace of this body,
but you did not come; the bluebirds
saw you on horseback, hunting pheasants, the sparrows—
at ease on the arm of a handmaid’s daughter.”

If your mag/book/flyer/site/etc. is utilizing GenAI for its art, I’m going to assume any of 3 things:

1) Your writing is also AI.

2) You do not value artists.

3) You view yourself/your work as different than art or superior.

I won’t waste my time with your work until this has been remedied.

This @zohrankmamdani.bsky.social video is absolutely INCREDIBLE. The numbers he cites, the strategy and results they produced — it’s the future. When have you heard *any* campaign talk about this, ever? (Video split in 2 to fit in Bluesky’s limits)

1. Florida banned cities from lighting up bridges rainbow colors for Pride.

So the people of Jacksonville did it themselves using flashlights and gels.

They opened the drawbridge to block them.

So they marched to a different bridge.

And some days, I’m grateful that certain pieces were rejected. Because past-me could only ever be so arrogant as to call a piece “done”, when future-me was waiting all along, carrying with him the exact right words. And now, perhaps, it is done.
