There are a lot of takeaways from Dead Things, which turns 23 today, but the one I love the most is this: at her core, Buffy wants Spike in her actual bed with her like an actual boyfriend, and so much of her S6 struggle is reconciling that want with what she believes is right.

He was supposed to be killed off by Angel to establish evil Angel as the ultimate bad-ass for taking out another bad-ass, and instead, how he went on to become so intimately woven into the fabric of the show that he surpassed Angel in popularity and legacy.
