Top *eight* articles on NYT devoted to Charlie Kirk, top one asks if he will be remembered like MLK. This is a man who only a tiny percent of Americans had even heard of before his death, whose views are too nasty for NYT to detail. But they are trying so hard to turn into martyr.

Shot, chaser

Young men more likely to vote Green than Reform. Young men second most progressive group of any demographic. Combined right-wing vote barely bigger than Green vote alone for young men

I just think if your definition of civility is about the volume and tone of speech and ignores the content of the speech you probably need to start over

Yeah, it is crazy how supposedly unbiased media outlets from outside the US have been constantly covering this extremist influencer's death as the biggest world news for the last few days.
BBC News Channel now seems to be The Charlie Kirk Channel.

‘Booty’ and ‘butt’ are synonyms.

‘Call’ and ‘dial’ are synonyms.

But, a ‘booty call’ and a ‘butt dial’ are VERY different things.

First Past the Post cannot handle this level of fragmentation. It will produce completely freak results.

We can grasp this problem now, or wait for the train to crash.
5 parties on more than 12%, winner gains seat with under 30%. Results like this used to be rare, freak outliers. Now they are routine (there was a second just like this yesterday). Electoral chaos.
Newmarket East (West Suffolk) Council By-Election Result:

➡️ RFM: 29.7% (New)
🌳 CON: 25.0% (+4.1)
🔶 LDM: 17.2% (-3.1)
🌹 LAB: 15.3% (-8.3)
🌍 GRN: 12.8% (New)

No WSI (-19.2) or Ind (-16.1) as previous.

Reform GAIN from Labour.
Changes w/ 2023.

We have a bit of a natural experiment here. Compare the tone, quantity and duration of Charlie Kirk coverage with that of the two Dem lawmakers gunned down in their homes in Minnesota 6 months ago. May be revealing.

Anyone in finance who quotes military strategy to justify their actions is a wanker.
One of the few truly reliable heuristics from nearly three decades working in financial markets is „people who bang on about Sun Tzu are wankers”.

Let’s keep this story running! Well done, Mike!

House Speaker Mike Johnson claims Donald Trump was a FBI informant tasked with taking down Jeffrey Epstein:

“President Trump was an FBI informant in an effort to take Epstein down.”

The reason many of the commentators don’t like Bluesky is because the infrastructure is set up in a way that no longer benefits them.

On Twitter it was always easier to gain an audience by purposefully saying things that upset people. Getting ratio-ed was a tactic.

Here, that’s much harder.

United States seems to be a rogue state now.
They bombed without warning a non-threatening small boat, which is insane and a violation of international law even if it was carrying contraband which we have no way of knowing, and then gleefully shared it as a snuff video.

So our military just bombed a boat in international waters and extrajudicially killed suspected drug traffickers without so much as a conversation, let alone a trial?
Then posted it on social media?

And we’re all supposed to just trust their account?

Trump administration have just released the video of the strike on the Venezuelan vessel. It’s the size of a very small fishing boat, blasted to pieces by multi-million dollar US hardware. It doesn’t look strong. It’s embarrassing.

I feel like every time I'm browsing Wikipedia and reading the entry for someone who died in 2020 – 2022, it unfailingly says they died of covid or covid was a "contributing factor." We have completely memory-holed this disease which killed 1.2 million Americans.

Why the problem with "it is never the comms" takes is that without an effective communications strategy a government cannot generate sustainable public support that creates the space for it to implement successful policies.

Effective comms and successful policy implementation are intertwined.
Public attention is to electoral politics what aerobic base is to the Olympic marathon; it mightn’t win you the race entirely on its own, but without it you aren’t even a runner.
