Greater Toronto got its Greenbelt in 2005. It took 20 years for the City of Toronto to partially legalize sixplexes.

I think, if you want a greenbelt, you need to legalize substantial density *first*.

Not just sixplexes. Single-stair mid-rises everywhere (high-rises around all subway stations).

It won't surprise you to learn that I think the biggest inequality in our society is caused by zoning within our cities and that I think is being ignored by many contemporary centre left politicians and think tanks.

re: tariff inflation discourse, it's worth mentioning again that if tariffs *don't* raise prices, then there's no way they "incentivize" domestic production

The mechanism by which they're supposed to re-shore industry is by increasing prices for imported goods and reducing trade

public consultation results for dedicated transit lanes on bathurst+dufferin. note overwhelming support (75%+ dufferin, 67-68% bathurst) for transit priority+converting parking to transit lanes.

transportation services recommendations + councillor compromises do not reflect what people want.

Over the last 3 yrs we’ve been updating zoning to allow more types of new housing. But our work doesn’t end there. Next week we’ll present a report on an initiative to look at things like loading, waste collection & amenity space that impact cost+design to get missing middle & midrise housing built.

Interestingly, there's a proposal to start looking at this and other mid-rise issues at Planning and Housing Committee on July 15. Report due back end of Q2 2026 😐. secure.toronto.ca/council/agen...

The cold hearted people claiming to represent my neighbourhood in order to oppose a shelter have kindly decided to all write the exact same (evil) letter to the economic development committee so that I have a handy reference for future housing fights.

Oh good, Paula Fletcher is using an item at ECDC on a rat response plan to try and make the Ontario Line construction more expensive. Great priorities councillor.

One thing that's been bugging me a lot lately is the city offloading its responsibilities onto development, effectively doing policy by passing cost onto new housing rather than active management. Here's the latest example: the city will control rats... by making developers do it.

We must maintain the inner suburbs as suburbs forever. Can't change the built form or streets because their destiny was set when they were first designed and built in the 70s.

Yes, 5 bedroom apartments exist. And yes, we can make more. If we as a city decide we want them, developers will build them.

We really should allow different shapes of towers in Toronto. Skinny rectangle is neat, but what about wide rectangle! I think wide rectangle is worth it for cheaper housing.

I went to this meeting and was very confused about why there were boards with Trump's face and claims of disproportionate scale. Turns out the local RA set up their own displays in the room. Still not enough deference to them though, according to some.

This entitlement is pretty funny. The federal money is for housing. If council votes to limit expanding housing options, they don’t deserve the money. This is like the video of the kid saying he’ll punch Santa if he’s in the Naughty List.
Councillor Paula Fletcher calls the federal government's warning of a 25% cut to housing funds a "blackmail clause."

She asks staff why the clause wasn't mentioned in the sixplex report. Staff can't really say.

Instant Runoff Voting in the New York City Democratic primary election failed to elevate the best candidates and will fail to elect the best candidates.

Instant Runoff Voting helps elect candidates at the extremes of the voting population.

I think you're very wrong. This recent favorability poll in New York City is similar to what you'd get with approval voting and we have tons of historical election examples with approval voting in Fargo and St Louis.
