Everyone, even the folks with the nuclear codes, is entertaining themselves online as the world burns. Posting through it and monitoring the situation until it finally reaches their doorstep and forces them to look up from their phone and log off.

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.

@caseynewton.bsky.social @ryanhatesthis.bsky.social great episode on AI, I think it can be overhyped, dangerous, and very useful all at the same time. Humans need to do what we do best and adapt. AI tools have been good at turbocharging my research, and chaining narrow prompts works wonders.

I talked with so many people who didn't believe me when I told them that Donald Trump was serious about damn fool ideas like starting a trade war with our best friends.

This is the correct approach. He’s supposed to bring down grocery prices? Why hasn’t that happened today? Tomorrow: same comment. “China” is supposed to pay the tariffs? How big was their check yesterday? How about the day before?

"Every Sunday, Cornelius Ticketmaster IV drives his Lincoln Navigator nine blocks to check in with his son, Prestige, a DJ and bumfight promoter who lives in a former hospital that the family bought in 2017 and turned into a 'cryptocurrency supper club.' But now, Corn says, it's not in the budget."

Brief thread on how we got here: Since the GOP won control of the House 2 years ago they have not passed a single appropriations package into law. Government has operated at funding levels set by Dems 2 years ago via continuing resolutions every few months. This is not normal.

According to Korean constitutional law, if martial law is declared in a state of non-war, the National Assembly can vote to make the president stand it down. The National Assembly is gathering now.

We are just now getting footage of inside the National Assembly.

For Thanksgiving, I am thankful for the most viscous and savage den of online trolling, that I also love: the r/TVTooHigh subreddit who abuse people who mount their TVs too high www.businessinsider.com/reddit-tv-to...
Is your TV mounted too high? This group of trolls on the internet is about to roast you.
A subreddit devoted to proper TV mounting is full of savage roasting. The harmless trolling soothes my soul in this moment of tension and division.

I guess it’s time to start posting about tariffs again.

I’ll have more as we reboot the 2019 era research pipelines. A good first start, if out of context:

Supply chain strategies to mitigate tariffs
The return to office of President-elect Donald Trump brings the prospect of a renewed round of import tariffs to the US.

I know that the AP Stylebook says the proper possessive form of Harris is Harris'. But the AP Stylebook also says not to use the Oxford comma. It's not a serious publication, let alone an authority on punctuation.

There is a moment in...5? Where you're killing bugs and they start talking about a new HUMANOID invader that looks JUST LIKE US.

Aliens? Like people?

When the giant frogs arrived, I lost it. It might be the most I've lost it at a videogame.
