Tiger Dowdell was born 74 years ago today. On July 16, 1970, at 19 years old, he was shot & killed by Lawrence police during a dark period in the city's history. Investigation records in his killing had never been released until we pushed for access in this 2022 series.

A lesson I have learned from surgery, shingles, chemo, etc:
Never underestimate what the human body -- and the human race -- can recover from once you remove what's harming it and treat it with patience, love, and care.
Don't ever let the current state of damage be the future you envision.

Our insurance company just wrote to us that the life saving medication our 9-year-old daughter needs to live is rejected because they decided—CONTRARY TO HER DOCTOR—that it is "Not Medically Necessary."
