Use this time to build community, invest in mutual aid, educate yourself & your family, hammer your "representatives" with strong opinions, be in the streets taking up space & using your voice. We'll beat these fascist fucks & build something better than the status quo we had.

Keep doing The Work
It's become clear that this administration is just a protracted war on anybody who's read a book without pictures in it. It's a miracle we're all still getting up and going to work every morning. The psychological drain is the point, and I'm increasingly grateful to the people who are still decent.

If you ever wanted to do an interview-style podcast, Michael Krasny is an exemplar of technique and technical excellence.

If you want the deets on the dangers of the American diet, Robert Lustig is your guy.

Either way, you should give this episode a listen.

1/ A 🧵re. culture vs. fascism, which I promise will be relevant right now.

As an art buff since childhood, I've been deeply concerned about what fascist states do to artists & their work, starting when I first learned about the Nazis' repression of supposed "degenerate art" (Entartete Kunst).
"Degenerate" Art
Nazi leaders sought to control all spheres of German society, including art. They labeled art that did not meet the regime's criteria "degenerate." Learn more.

One of the wilder political things in recent history is that Project 2025 publicly released a 900 page document laying out their plans to roll back 100 years of human progress and then during the campaign Republicans just said "no we're not :)" and then they won and now they're doing it all.

What Asimov describes here has become a reality in Trump's America: obtuse views are taken by his supporters as proof of patriotism. Those who oppose them are fired.

"When stupidity is considered patriotism, it is unsafe to be intelligent."

This is Winston Churchill visiting the White House during World War II.

Funny how he isn’t wearing a suit either. Almost like he was a wartime leader defending his country from being slaughtered and wiped out by an authoritarian aggressor.

A Damnable Disgrace.
In a display of petty insecurity and diplomatic incompetence, Trump and Vance just humiliated themselves on the world stage.

I will say again: The destruction of the CFPB—an agency that has brought in $20 billion over a little more than a decade despite having an annual budget that's less than what DOD has spent so far today—is the clearest sign none of this has anything to do with saving taxpayers money.
"I am preparing this declaration to ensure that the Court is aware of the imminent risk that twelve years’ of critical CFPB records, which belong to the public, will be irretrievably lost and cause serious and sweeping damage unless the Court takes action."
CFPB's former chief technologist issues an urgent warning to the court that several years' worth of sensitive data is about to be destroyed, with damaging consequences

in what meaningful way can we say that the constitution is in effect when an unelected and unaccountable billionaire is wielding state power to unilaterally cancel congressional appropriations?
Hearing that DOGE went into the Dept of Education today and shut down almost the entirety of the department's in-house research arm, Institute of Educational Sciences, cancelling contracts totally about $900m.
