We're a fair trade nonprofit putting people and planet first since 1949, bringing artisan-made handcrafts and foods to the United States and sharing the incredible talents of our global partners with people across the country.

We're SERRV. A fair trade, women-led nonprofit, we were started in 1949 as a way for displaced European refugees to trade their handcrafts (cuckoo clocks!) for income after WWII. Now, we work with artisans and farmers around the world by selling their beautiful handmade items and delicious foods. 🌏
Choose fair trade gifts this season! There’s still time to find a treasure. SERRV.org

It takes more than just our small nonprofit to make an impact. In fact, we wouldn't be here if not for the incredible dedication and support of #fairtrade stores around the country. So, to all our store partners—thank you! 🙏

September is #HispanicHeritageMonth! 🎉 Take time this month to celebrate the rich culture, contributions, and successes of Hispanic people in the United States and beyond. From civil rights activists to artists and composers, the Hispanic community is a massive contributor to our country.

When you shop and support fair trade, you get more than one-of-a-kind handcrafts and foods; you providing access to education, vital employment opportunities, funding for community improvement projects, and more to disadvantaged artisans and farmers. With fair trade, you make a positive impact 🙌

And it's only getting hotter. Our global partners are suffering the effects of climate change, which disproportionately affects those in poverty. You can do your part by supporting businesses and practices that put people and planet before profits—fair trade is both of these! Go green with SERRV 💚
Last month was the 3rd hottest June on record globally...

It was also separately the 6th warmest June for global land areas and the 3rd warmest for global ocean areas.

Unpredictable weather, soaring temperatures, and more natural disasters all come as a result of climate change heavily driven by emissions produced by the burning of fossil fuels. But this doesn't have to continue! Renewable energy, from solar power to wind power, is the future of our planet. 🧵
July 11, 2025 at 2:37 PM
These high temperatures aren't just affecting the U.S. and Europe; countries around the world are experiencing sweltering conditions in cities where many people don't have A/C. Fair trade supports sustainable energy and believes in a greener future. #fightclimatechange
We were warned but decided to carry on regardless.

A new study shows: “heat domes” and related atmospheric events behind extreme weather around the world almost tripled in strength and duration since the 1950s.

Doubling down on phasing out fossil fuels is now more needed than ever before.

We ❤️ pollinators! They help produce the foods we eat, the plants we enjoy, and more, and we can't afford to lose them. Support eco-friendly products and projects, and you support our pollinators.

On World Environment Day, we can all work to #BeatPlasticPollution by using reusable and sustainably made products. ♻️ Fair trade makes the planet a focus—from eco-friendly materials to eco-conscious crafting methods.
Here are some simple swaps to reduce single use plastic use:

🛍️ BYO reusable shopping bags

☕ Carry a reusable coffee cup

🚰 Use a refillable water bottle

🍱 Choose products with minimal or no plastic packaging

🥗 Use reusable wraps & containers for BYO lunch & takeaway

June is #PrideMonth! 🏳️‍🌈 Our focus is on fighting poverty through fair trade and we believe the rights for and dignity of all people are both relevant to creating a better and fairer world. We believe it is important to stand up for people who are vulnerable, including the LGBTQ+ community.

This affects not just crops for food, but also crops for crafts, like the sustainable grasses many of our partners use to create their gorgeous baskets. Another reason to fight climate change! ✊

What's the buzz today? 🐝 It's World Bee Day, and a great opportunity to celebrate these powerful pollinators! Without them, many of the plants we enjoy on our tables and in our gardens wouldn't exist. Here's to bees!

Those plants need somewhere to live! When you choose fair trade for your garden accessories, you're not only helping keep your mind sharp, you're also helping global artisans earn a vital income to support themselves and their families. It's a win-win! 🌱
so, the cost of all those new plants is justifiable🌞🌱 "The study compared the intelligence test scores of participants at age 11 and age 79. The results showed those who spent time gardening showed greater lifetime improvement in their cognitive ability than those who never or rarely did." #health

On International Workers' Day, take a moment to celebrate the working class, their struggles, and their successes. Protests held today in 1886 were responsible for the eight-hour work day, and today continues to be an important day for workers to fight for their rights. 🧵

We have seven partners in India and one in Pakistan, and they're already feeling the effects of climate change. These temperatures will only continue to rise unless we take action.
April heatwaves in South Asia signal accelerating climate crisis🌡️

Scientists say these extremes, arriving months earlier than expected, are almost entirely driven by human-induced climate change.

YES! We as individuals can make a difference. Another way to reduce your carbon footprint is to shop sustainably—look for fair trade, upcycled, and recycled products, as well as reusable alternatives to single-use items.
It's time to start talking, so use your voice. Collective change begins with understanding the risks climate change poses and the actions that can be taken together.

😍 trees
Did you celebrate Arbor Day this week?

Trees do a lot for us. They help cool things down, absorb carbon dioxide, and keep soil from washing away. Check out this conversation from last year on how—and where–trees make a difference in cities.

Satellite technology—and community outreach—can help harness trees’ cooling power for city residents.
