I was thinking that it would be good if the internet was as slow as the rotation of the earth, like everything was delayed by the difference between time zones, and then I was thinking about what a hellish technical problem it would be to accomplish that

Here's my point:

If somebody different from you wants to sit next to you at lunch, somebody who just wants a coffee and maybe a slice of pie, welcome them.

If people give them shit, be one of the ones who pushes back and makes space and safety.

It's -always- the right thing to do.

The day after police came to his apartment in June to check on him, Zane told ChatGPT that he awoke to texts from his parents and wondered how quickly he should respond.

ChatGPT’s answer: “You don’t owe them immediacy,” according to the suit.

So hey, OpenAI is like … the industry darling and the future and the smartest white people in the room … but they also just asked the federal government do backstop their insanely overleveraged ‘investment’ and I think we should just say ‘nah bro, invisible hand, market smart, number go down.’
I found myself reading articles about AI and the financial markets this morning and um, it's not great?

"The AI investment ‘bubble’ is 17 times the size of the dot-com frenzy of 2000 — and four times the subprime mortgage bubble of 2007."

To be candid, I want the bubble to burst. Because it will eventually and inevitably, but the longer the current charade goes on the more our planet and communities are decimated— and the more dependent we become on the few powerful people left who control those resources.
Energy requirements for AI mean that the only way for the bubble not to burst would require companies to multiply their carbon footprint to an unimaginable degree. Right now, while AI is barely functional and mostly a novelty for the lazy, it requires so much energy that data centers rival cities.

There are so many streets in Somerville and Cambridge that would be improved by getting this treatment!

(And Cambridge is currently planning/working on doing a pilot on one of them.)
A Woonerf in the Netherlands. Through motor traffic is redirected to main roads. Greenery & street furniture (including a small playground) is strategically placed to ensure motor traffic keeps to slow speeds, with paving used & roadway raised at junctions, where collisions are most likely to occur

We're trapped in a game of Monopoly where oligarchs own all the property and the rest of us are simply making our way around the board trying to avoid financial ruin.

They've also bought the bank and the government, so they can change the rules to their liking.

It's game over or time for a reset.
