I'm sure a million other people have said this, but I'm one:

I don't think non-sewing people understand how much human labor goes into the 21st century creation of clothing. A single garment is still the culmination of hours of undervalued human work.
Arguably the thing that people treat the most dismissively that would absolutely floor pre-modern people is clothing. I don't think non-historians understand how much human labor went into pre-modern creation of clothes and fibers. A single dress is the culmination of many many hours of work

A fun thing you can do is pop onto Zillow, look at all rentals in a random chunk of the greater LA area, sort by recently changed, then check every price increase to see if it was more than 10%. If there's no obvious changes (didn't go from unfurnished to furnished) then report it for price gouging.

When the bubble pops, and it will, you’re not just looking at a few Johnny-come-lately companies shuttering. This is a load-bearing delusion. The entire tech industry is fucked because they all bought in, every VC firm bought in, investors have everything in it. They need to make you like it.
Look: The thing you need to understand about genAI is that every Next Big SV Thing of the last 15 years—NFTs, Web3, Metaverse, VR—has been utterly rejected by the market and the tech grifters know this is their last chance, no more. That’s why there is an apocalyptic level of capital invested in it.

💻 Point blank allowing calling trans people "freaks" is not about allowing free speech:

It's about allowing hate speech.

This is what LGBTQIA+ people need to know about a week where big tech, including Apple, Meta and TikTok aligned with Trump 🧵

Attention Canadian K-12 social studies & history teachers.

The Treaty Map includes every Canadian treaty from 1763-present, & challenges the commonly held view of treaties as land surrenders.

Includes an interactive learning & teaching tool, grounded in Indigenous perspectives of treaties.

The media has focused on wealthy, White neighborhoods. But the fire in Altadena--a racially and economically diverse suburb--deserves more attention, because insurance may not cover their rebuilding costs, forcing families out and leading the neighborhood to gentrify.
