This was a fun collaboration between Ophélie & the @seegerlab.bsky.social using sybody libraries to target the SMC complex in living bacteria. With a suprising finding: the 14 isolated sybodies bind to the middle of the SMC coiled coil rather than the more conserved ATPase heads.

#Mycobacteria use molecules called mycobactins to capture iron, then taken up by a membrane transporter

Gonda et al. show that mycobactin slides down a crevice at the transporter surface & goes across the membrane in a “credit card” mechanism

Proud to see our DMS paper out in @nchembio after going through a productive review process🥳EfrCD's drug efflux activity profile determined for >1400 single variants. Identified single mutations that convert the exporter into a drug-specific ABC importer!
