NSF reorganization is, frankly, a bit odd, and we haven't run a story on it partly because it's hard to know what to make of it. The impetus for reorg, as I understood it, was to limit the siloing that occurs because NSF has so many (35ish) divisions. Now there will be 50+ sections.

I'm seeking an enthusiastic student to join our Seismology group at SU! You'll be part of a collaborative NSF-funded team to collect new marine seismic data to work out the tectonics of early seafloor spreading in the Atlantic.

Fujitastic image! Worth a repost
Just spent some time digging through old Maxar/DigitalGlobe blogs to find a reference image and found this incredible capture of Mt Fuji. Incredible.

The satellite was only three degrees above the horizon when it captured this image.

Prosecutors Fail to Secure Indictment Against Man Who Threw Sandwich at Federal Agent
It was a sharp rebuke to the prosecutors who are dealing with the fallout from President Trump’s move to send National Guard troops and federal agents into Washington.

Oooh can I get educated about "scientific integrity" by a bunch of lawyers? Srsly the implications of this are staggering
Here's the list of NSF changes. Fairly anodyne, on the surface, with at none of the explicit concerns researchers had voiced (ceding control of the review process to political appointees).

The Senate Committee on Appropriations gave the first signs Congress will push back on Trump's proposed budget cuts to science and instead keep funding flat, though an unrelated issue (the location of the FBI headquarters) stalled any vote today.

US senators poised to reject Trump’s proposed massive science cuts
