Really nice to see this being used - a real blast from the past. If anyone is keen to help get this back on CRAN or do other work on it that would be amazing!

I spend a lot of my day interacting with LLMs and reviewing LLM generated content (mostly all via Claude Code). I'd really like it to communicate in a way that is more clearly not human as I find sometimes that when I talk to actual people I might not have switched communication style.

Now I'm also looking for a research software engineer to implement a pile of research results to R packages loo, posterior, bayesplot, projpred, priorsense, brms or/and Python packages ArviZ, Bambi and Kulprit. Apply by email with no specific deadline (see contact info at users.aalto.fi/~ave/)
I'm now also looking for a postdoc with strong Bayesian background and interest in developing Bayesian cross-validation theory, methods and software. Apply by email with no specific deadline (see contact information at users.aalto.fi/~ave/).

Others, please share
I'm looking for a doctoral student with Bayesian background to work on Bayesian workflow and cross-validation (see my publication list users.aalto.fi/~ave/publica... for my recent work) at Aalto University.

Can you take a quarter cup of composite sewage, simply ask ‘what’s in there?’, and find out all of the pathogens circulating in that community?

That is the question we asked in our latest pre-print.

Turns out you can.

Spoke to a colleague last night about what works and doesn't in academic publishing. They were making a case that most work is done by the first and last author and so aside from network effects usually little cost shedding the rest of the list.

in my post-academic era i have become extremely scathing of the way academia considers papers to the primary outcome of intellectual work, and refuses to give credit to academics who write software or build other tooling. in industry we very rarely read your papers; but we always use your software

We need dedicated funding for maintaining & supporting public health infrastructure & pipelines. Not just startup, not just in pandemics.

In the past 2 weeks several European countries have reported locally acquired cases of #mpox clade Ib.
This is new. There had been patients before but those infections likely happened elsewhere.
Now it looks like mpox Ib is spreading here in the sexual networks of men who have sex with men.

This was making me think if anyone has a favourite paper on resource use to write grants / resource from getting the grant.

Here where the timelines and amounts are small but the numbers applying are quite large I wonder how close it works out.

Apart from the recent SSI grant call in the UK and the essential software grants from CZ (which I think have now paused been redirected to AI) what other mechanisms do people use to support ongoing software development/maintence?

Anyone with a lower h-index than me is ineffectual, while anyone with a higher h-index is just better at playing the game and cutting corners. I'm sorry, that's just how numbers work!
I am completely against the use of citation metrics to evaluate scientists. But if your h-index is less than mine, you kinda have do what I say. I don't make the rules.

Great times today listening to Aphex Twin and running 8 claude code agents in parallel across different tasks. Did I get more work done? Likely no. Did I feel like I was living in the future? Maybe except they apparently spell very badly in the future.

One of the fun things about being in the redundancy process at LSHTM is they put you on the redeployment register.

Currently, I am getting a strong message I am suited to a project management role.
