#LTHEchat A5 We've wkd w students in research around aspects of student experience, conduct the data-gathering and analysis & co-author papers & co-present at conferences. Also integrate real qualitative research into modules - eg 1st years investigating study strategies/attitudes - revelatory!
Q5. How can co-creation be integrated with research? #LTHEchat

A5 Well my research is SoTL so getting students to help design and execute projects. Perhaps my favourite one is immunologywars.com which helps decontextualise immunology teaching via the characters of Star Wars #LTHEchat

A4: scaffolded room for student choice in assessment to achieve learning outcomes - modality, topic, situation.

Regular dialogue with students around learning outcomes and how it can look/feel to achieve them. Tangible sense of progress built into assessment/feedback structures.

A3. Visibility often is underestimated. If students really feel celebrated, acknowledged and valued in their contributions and roles, it will empower others to join in and bring their own identities. Very little representations of students with #disabilities. #LTHEchat

#LTHEchat A4 Project based learning, peer review/feedback and peer to peer teaching can be integrated as part of active learning & is co-creation in action. Also modules that involve community action & one I loved was a drama 'module in a week' where HE students worked with FE ones to put on a play.

This seems the (important) flip side to recognising that co-creating isn't for all students: it's important that students who participate don't become a clique. Though true of a whole bunch of things for which students can put themselves forwards eg open day ambassadors or student reps #LTHEchat

A2 #LTHEchat students are too often expected to contribute without financial recompense and academic credit. Internships can provide a good way to empower and reward students, making time and space for them to focus on participation

A2 the perceived power dynamic. Staff may not be willing to accept student advice and students may feel that they cannot speak up. Co-creation has to be a culture shift.

Can’t share a link until Friday but one of the EUA TPG reports I co-led this year is about student empowerment. #LTHEchat

I think the students are experts in their own learning, and they have experienced a lot of teaching, so will know what works for them. Getting to grips with why “boring” aspects of the curriculum can be a challenge (thinking of students saying during dissertation “now … makes sense”) A2 #lthechat
