my new AI powered lamp is trained on millions of lamp interactions so it understands that 50% of chain pulls are to turn it on and the other 50% are to turn it off. and honestly, it's a little spooky how it knows exactly what i want almost half of the time

reject AI, reject its devaluation of your fellow workers' labor and its destruction of our ecosystem. look to improve the world you live in instead of inventing new ones where all the problems are solved by handwaving at unrealized technology

imagining a future where orgs/people with morals and spines who build stuff for actual people instead of someone at the end of a b2b supply chain start to really thrive.

calm apps that do their job well and fuck off. less focus on growth. more human touches. no selling of souls to vc.

Pre-ordered yesterday, very much looking forward to its release :)
Ok folks, this is the last reminder about Mindful Design pre-orders. Once today is over, that's it and the cheapest it'll be (aside from PPP) won't happen again!

Billions dumped into this. Billions wasted.

Meanwhile the cost of living crisis makes people's lives a living hell.

This stuff makes me so mad.

they can hide it on bsky.app but it will still be up elsewhere.

Just finished @piccalil.li's Complete CSS. I think I like CSS now? But seriously @bell.bz is a great teacher, he answered questions I asked in the Discord server (and fixed a typo I found)!

I will remind folks those images of Nazi book burnings aren't burning just any books. They're burning the library of Magnus Hirschfeld; a gay, Jewish doctor who created an institute dedicated to LGBTQ sex education and healthcare. And a man who pioneered gender affirming care surgeries.

Online age verification is not like "showing ID to buy alcohol" because

a) the liquor store doesn't get to scan your ID and store a digital copy of it forever in a database that will inevitably get hacked

b) you don't have to show ID to go to the library because they have cocktail recipe books

NEW: The IDF is shooting children at aid stations for target practice.

Dr Nick Maynard says soldiers chose particular body parts to target on different days - one day head, then chest, abdomen & testicles.

‘Vibe coding’ as a phrase is embarrassing to me. In an industry where the bar was already very low, it suggests we can care even less. It’s another step towards enshittification.

The only way to make great software is to truly reason about the code and systems. There are no shortcuts.
