Disabled, wheelchair using woman (she/her) from the Maritime provinces in Canada. Love to read - fiction, non fiction, social media and articles. Humanist, leftist. Mom of 2 young adults. Married to my best friend.
I'm just so broken hearted. My dad has been sucked into the right wing void via YouTube. He is not the loving, intelligent man he was. He is a great father, grandfather and loves me. I thought the past few months, days would have shown him the truth. They haven't and I don't want to see him anymore.

Judith Butler is 100% correct. The word "woke" is pure reactionary bullshit. Its contemporary meaning also distorts history by making it seem as if every positive cultural change of the past 200 years has happened naturally, without agitation by people considered, at the time, dangerously "woke."

Please don't call what RFK Jr. and Jay Bhattacharya are going to do medieval. It's not medieval. It's nothing like the Middle Ages. People in the Middle Ages were happy to try all kinds of things to not die of the plague and if you'd given them antibiotics and vaccines they would have loved it.

How in the world are you going to say capitalism isn’t the problem when we’ve literally managed to cause climate change and a global mass extinction in less than 500 years of it existing?

Any system that demands constant growth and consumption is unsustainable.

A handful of billionaires now have unprecedented control over banking, the food we eat, the health care we can access and, now, the information we receive.

This is what oligarchy looks like.

I just finished this one. I’m a little embarrassed admitting I had never read it before. So good. It’s hard to describe the feeling it evoked in me. A combination of happiness and sadness and of despair and hope for humanity. All wrapped in one. #booksky 💙📚

I’m doing this over on BlueSky, so I might as well do it here too!

Choose 20 books that have stayed with you or influenced you. One book per day for 20 days, in no particular order. No explanations, no reviews, just covers.

Oof. Yes. It has been a learning experience. Masking for others covered a LOT of executive disfunction.
I've never lived by myself before.

When you're alone, all the masks fall away. You're left seeing the full you. (If you're really looking.)

Nobody else there to fill in for your mistakes. Nobody to alter your attitude or mannerisms for. Just you, in a vacuum, or next nearest thing.

It's sobering.

Forced birth in a country with:

—No universal healthcare
—No universal childcare
—No paid family & medical leave
—One of the highest rates of maternal mortality among rich nations

This isn't about "life." It's about control.
between anti-abortion extremists and rfk the trump administration seems to be a targeted effort to increase maternal and early childhood mortality

Im gonna say it again: music is VITAL to games. Music guides players. Music enhances emotional moments. Music is so so so important. Funny enough video games are modern operas in the way music is needed to buoy the emotional stakes.
