Today, the Supreme Court will hear arguments in a case that could gut the Voting Rights Act by barring states from considering race when drawing district lines — an outcome that stands to upend next year's midterms.
The Supreme Court has chipped away at the Voting Rights Act for years. Will this case be the final blow?
The case centers on Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act, the key provision of the law that broadly prohibits discrimination in voting practices on the basis of race or creed.

Astonishing advance by the Greens, astonishing implosion of Labour. When will Starmer's government get the message that it is destroying its base with deeply unpopular, rightwing policies?

By chasing Reform, it legitimises the far right while delegitimising itself.
Latest poll puts Greens just two points behind Labour. When I said we weren't here to be disappointed in Labour but to replace them, I meant it.

It breaks my mind that two British political parties have seen scenes like this and decided to try and replicate it in Britain. Thuggary, lawlessness, state brutality. Farage and Badenoch decided they liked the look of it.
This video of Chicagoans intervening to save a man from being abducted off the streets by ICE is making the rounds on Instagram.

This is simple. Congress should not willingly pay the bills to fund the most serious assault on political freedom in our lifetime - an assault that may collapse democracy as we know it if we don't fight back.

It’s taking too long for the penny to drop for the vast majority.
The split in the Democratic Party—between those who can name and respond to what is happening and those who cannot—is growing into a chasm.
In any other country, if federal agents fired upon journalists when unprovoked — what would we call it?

If federal agents marched down streets demanding papers — what would we say?

Authoritarianism — let’s not pretend it’s something else when it happens in our American cities.
