Big power outages across the region. Huge swaths out for Whidbey & Skagit County, many outages in Thurston County as well. PSE up to 78K out, as of 1:15 AM. #wawx

Correct me if I’m wrong but currently every path from western Washington east over the passes is currently closed. 20 is closed for the season, 2 is closed both directions from mudslides. 12 is closed due to flooding and and 90 eastbound just closed from a mudslide.

I want to restate something I said in a lot of replies yesterday, which is that this move is not going to reduce replies yelling at the Bsky team—and that should not be the goal.

What it does is clarify how moderation works here so that people can assess that and act accordingly.

Your reminder that $5T a year was assessed to be what was needed for “Net Zero by 2050” and conventionally regarded as unrealistic!

Living with Long COVID often feels like living in a horror movie. Along with your disease comes a creepy Hive Mind refusal to acknowledge the dangers of COVID infection. In Vince Gilligan's new Apple TV show Pluribus, the Hive Mind comes to life:

"Pluribus" captures the isolation of COVID-awareness in a COVID denialist world
For years I've described having Long COVID as living in a horror movie. Now that horror movie (well, prestige Apple TV show) is here.

Jamaica, in particular, will likely suffer catastrophic impacts from now rapidly-intensifying (but slow-moving) Hurricane #Melissa. A *Category 5* landfall now appears to be the most likely outcome, & 30-40+ inches of *additional* rain in mountains will lead to extreme flooding.

I’m too tired and old to go through a civil war.
ICE is stockpiling arms, including chemical weapons, guided missile warheads and explosive components. The spending dwarfs anything we've ever seen in the agency - a 700% increase.

Last May I made strawberry lemonade for an event and I had some leftover and put it in the fridge and forgot about it. After a while it smelled a little yeasty so I thought I’d leave it a little longer and use it to kill garden slugs. Some time passed and last week I was all “time to throw it out”.

These taste like spicy cheez-its.
I woke up at 5 am to make a peach crumb cake (last peaches of the year) and proof and bake bagels (half spicy cheddar and half everything seasoning) because I’m a kind person. These are for other people. It was supposed to be 5:30. I couldn’t sleep. I put gochugaru in the spicy cheddar.

The entirety of the American political system is breaking down and too many people don’t see there’s no coming back from this. Psychologically, the genie cannot go back in the bottle no matter how long the Trump administration holds absolute power.
The Trump administration confirmed that the U.S. bailed out Argentina.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said he had directly bought Argentine pesos in global currency markets in a bid to relieve pressure on the nation’s embattled President Javier Milei, a supporter of President Trump.
