🧵 An open letter to the US Open and USTA:

Trump will attend the #USOpen as a guest of ROLEX. Yesterday, Trump declared 'WAR' on Chicago. The USTA has called for media censorship of dissent against Trump today.

I played NCAA tennis many years ago and still play. Today I resign my #USTA membership.

The stadium Trump is in is named after Arthur Ashe, the tennis legend.

What many people today probably don't know is that Ashe was literally arrested in front of the White House in 1992 for protesting the George H.W. Bush administration's treatment of Haitian refugees. www.upi.com/Archives/199...
BREAKING: Trump makes his first appearance at the US Open. There were audible boos and a few light claps.

Important to stress the stadium is at most 10% full and the start time has been pushed to 2:30pm ET.

My 83-yo Dad is in an assisted living facility in a deep blue state and we got an email yesterday that he would need a physician’s order to get the covid booster this year.
Kennedy has insisted covid shots are still easy to obtain, claiming that @hassan.senate.gov was “making things up to scare people.”

But The Post talked to people who are struggling to get the vaccine. Elaine Cox, a 68-year-old with lung disease, said she wept after being denied a prescription.

US soft power (and to a lesser extent its hard power) has historically been highly dependent on educating future foreign leaders here. This is an own goal on so many levels.
International student visa issuances fell by nearly 20 percent year-over-year in May...and that was even before the effects of the pause in interviews. International enrollment is going to be way down in the fall (which is almost here).

For ex my bus has AC but ppl keep opening the windows despite decals saying "keep window closed." Hot sigh!
