On this day in 1957, the first Pugwash Conference was held in Pugwash, Nova Scotia at the Thinkers' Lodge. Hosted by Cyrus Eaton, 22 scientists from around the world attended to discuss nuclear disarmament. In 1995, the conference won the Nobel Peace Prize.

I am still digesting all of this, but I'm pretty confident that NOW is not the time to remove the independence of independent watchdogs intended to keep governments within the guardrails.
