Wow -- I missed that even UNICEF expressed concern about the Australian social media ban. UNICEF!! They said, correctly, "for many children, particularly those who are isolated or marginalised, social media is a lifeline[.]"

The Supreme Court of Canada has granted CIPPIC leave to intervene in Facebook v. Privacy Commissioner. The case will shape how PIPEDA protects Canadians’ privacy in the digital age, and whether privacy is treated as a human right.

This was really hard to limit my #Clawbies2025 nominations to three. I think @kylalee.ca remains the master of ALL online media for public legal education. The variety of content she puts out and the engagement with the public is amazing. Just wow.

A few years ago at a smart home event I asked the audience about using connected baby monitors or cameras to watch their babies. I asked who was using them and a bunch of hands shot up. Then I started asking people to put their hands down when I reached the age when they would take the monitor away.

Don't let anyone tell you that the Commission's DSA enforcement against X is about speech or censorship.

That would, indeed, be interesting. But this is just the EU enforcing some normal, boring laws that would get bipartisan support in the U.S. (I bet similar bills *have* had that support.) 1/

Another good example of how toxic control from the Premier’s office has become. MLAs are there to represent their constituents and to voice their opinions. Any attempt to muzzle them is inherently undemocratic. Druhan provides an important illustration of that. Kudos.
