Gov. Mike DeWine, speaking at the 2025 Library Legislative Day:

“Ohio has historically put a real premium on our libraries and I think that something that we want to continue.”

The House budget version eliminates the Ohio Public Library Fund, creating a formula advocates say will slash $100M.

Yes! Ohio folks have until 4/9 to speak up for libraries. Please call, email, and tell your people to do the same. The Ohio house is planning to destroy library funding.
Hey, so it's National Library Week. You're going to see a lot of calls to get a library card and check out books. All well and good. But I'm going to ask you to do something a little more supportive: speak up.

Ohioans, have you called Speaker Matt Huffman today? His number is (614) 466-6344! Tell him:
-don’t cut Ohio’s library funding! Restore the Public Library Fund to 1.75% of the General Revenue Fund!
-fully and fairly fund our schools! 90% of Ohio’s students attend public schools!
-to go fuck himself!

The Ohio House Republicans have released their first budget and their numbers are bad but the reasons they are using to push their terrible decisions are worse. We explain and put it all in context in this week's ICYMI Statehouse Edition.

The main source of state funding for Ohio’s public libraries was eliminated in the House draft of the state operating budget for the next two years. Analysis by the Ohio Library Council shows state funding would drop by more than $100 million compared to the governor’s proposal.

Ohio peeps, get on the horn to your state reps, they're trying to cut the budget for our public libraries. Tell them to restore the Public Library Fund (PLF) to 1.75% of the Ohio General Revenue Fund!

Calling can seem daunting, but it literally only takes a minute. My call to the Chairman was 32 seconds today, and I'll be calling tomorrow. Speaker Huffman keeps going right to voicemail.

But we do have enough money to give a $600 million handout to a sports team owned by billionaires. Call the Speaker and House Finance chair and tell them Ohioans deserve better than this!

The current version of the state budget is anti-health, anti-education, and anti-children. It will cut funds to everything from libraries, to schools, and even to food banks. House Republicans claim this is because we don’t have “enough money”.

#Ohio folks, please call your state representative and tell them to restore the Public Library Fund. Without it, rural libraries are pretty much screwed, and urban libraries are pretty screwed, too.

Then call the Speaker, Matt Huffman at (614) 466-6344 and ask him to do the same thing.

Ohio! It is early on a Friday morning, but this is a Get Up & Get Going moment. Start by contacting your state reps ASAP.
The new Ohio House budget would change the public library funding model, slash $100 million from libraries over the next two years, require relocating all trans/gender related books from eyesight of those under 18, and so much more.

This is *devastating*
