I will never forget having to edit Jamal’s final, posthumous piece for the Washington Post, after he was murdered.

He was calling for free expression in the Arab world. You can read it here :

Opinion | Jamal Khashoggi: What the Arab world needs most is free expression
The Arab world needs a modern version of the old transnational media so citizens can be informed about global events.

Julie Brown was for the Miami Herald. She actually cared about the victims, not the powerful.
And it is inexcusable she didn't win a Pulitzer for her work.
Watching people pour through the released Epstein files and just thinking how much better things would be if reputible, responsible, morally centered journalists had been fully engaged with the Epstein story from the beginning.

NEW—US Park Police w/ DHS officers near DC are increasingly pulling over Black and brown men, leaving their work vans on the side of the parkway + immediately calling a local towing company to take them. Families who just lost their breadwinner are stuck with the bill.

Families of DC-area immigrant drivers snatched by feds stuck with tow bill

Hey so “underage girls” are…children. The word you’re looking for is children. They’re not like, women-in-waiting or women-lite or whatever. They’re children. I think some of you are very uncomfortable with what that means for you but it is still true.

Shutting down the government is a big deal. People have been hurt in big ways as a result of the decision. To have that suffering be for nothing—to re-open the government without actually having protected people’s health insurance and economic well-being—is unconscionable.

I was laid off from Teen Vogue this week, alongside multiple other phenomenal team members.

At our Summit, I was asked how it felt to be 1 of 2 Black women left and what that meant for representation. Now, there are no Black women at Teen Vogue and that is incredibly painful to think about.

The great journalists at @propublica.org did the hard work to compile a list of US citizens who have been detained by ICE.

More Than 170 U.S. Citizens Have Been Held by Immigration Agents. They’ve Been Kicked, Dragged and Detained for Days.
The government does not track how often immigration agents grab citizens. So ProPublica did. Our tally — almost certainly incomplete — includes people who were held for days without a lawyer. And near...

Mario and his family are being punished for his reporting. This cruelty is meant to stifle our free press.

Two, when all you have is a tv face, you have to turn your job into a tv show.

It’s a theme of this administration.

I gave my heart and soul to that place. Built entire sections for journalists pushed out of their home countries.

When the writer I hired, Jamal Khashoggi was murdered by Saudi Arabia, they paraded me around as a symbol for press freedom.

I put MY LIFE on the line to defend journalism and WaPo.
weird that neither of these articles two main stories decrying censorship mention WaPo's firing of @karenattiah.bsky.social I guess democracy really does die in darkness

The last political column I was allowed to write in the @washingtonpost.com was a criticism of Obama.

His people took issue with my piece, but we were respectful.

Now he is tweeting in support of me.

This is how free political speech and respect for debate *actually works*.

Or used to work.

I wish journalists would stop framing political news as wins or losses for politicians or political parties. It’s an abrogation of our mission. Why do we keep doing this? Is the spending bill a win or loss for the American people? Who does it help? Who does it hurt? Is it sound policy? Fiscally?

If you hate the idea of abortions, men:

Don't fuck.
Wear a condom.
Get a vasectomy.
Find a woman who also doesn't want abortions. Plenty exist.

You're 50% of the conception process. You're empowered to make choices for your turgid sperm rocket.

You're just not empowered to make MY choices.

Well yes that’s the plan. Also, not a secret. Also, never been so close to achieving it before.

Wealthy, powerful people are generally such because they never, ever let a good crisis pass without breaking their enemies and stealing their stuff.
I've been thinking that, if there really is a big recession (as it looks like there will be), the resulting conditions will enable universities to get closer to their goal of fully eliminating expensive tenure-track faculty in favor of large pools of less expensive adjunct instructors
