That study grant actually was important, because dealing with the RRs is so thorny. Problem is what we do with the findings, lacking adequate capital to invest in whatever proposed solutions emerge from it... the likeliest of which is a very expensive overcrossing.

Existential crisis of modern day "public safety" -- if we don't reinforce the need for armed cops to exist, then we defund them and replace them with less deadly, more cost-effective alternatives.

Thus, armed police must continue to pretend they are needed, even when the research argues otherwise.

Also, PPB must have money to burn rn, because in each case there appeared to be no fewer than three squad cars with two occupants each.

So many city bureaus facing budget deficits while PPB continues to operate as inefficiently as ever, at least by the looks of things.

Thank you! I remain immensely grateful for every Portlander who supported me in 2020. It truly was an honor, and the experience of a lifetime to be part of something so community-oriented during such an intense, chaotic year in our city's history.

What the benefit of the doubt we give white dudes in Portland politics and advocacy spaces feels like...

I really struggle with this bloat, guys, especially vis a vis EV subsidies. Sure, the research says pavement impacts aren't that significant, but pedestrian safety?

Why should we subsidize bloat? Is there a workaround?

I don't understand why anyone does what Trump says, honestly.

I don't, I've been traveling. But the cupboard is bare, so I'll probably head over tomo, can report back.

(My guess is no, given proximity to Springwater Corridor and intense ongoing need.)

democrats should attack the supreme court because it harms people but also because it is an explicitly partisan institution that will stymie every future democratic government. it insists that democrats are not allowed to govern, so for democrats to govern they must remake it
DEMOCRATS: we have to win by playing by the rules!
SUPREME COURT: [shuffling papers] uhhh the rules say here you're not allowed to play at all
