Tonight, in Chicago, North Side rapid responders and community members held a vigil. At least ten people were abducted by ICE in Rogers Park alone today. We uplifted the message RESIST ICE in lights. We spoke out, sang together, grieved, and reaffirmed our commitment to defending our neighbors.

The carceral state is generally brutal and evil in the way it treats the human beings it cages, but it’s fine to point out when there are bursts of unusually concentrated or vigorous evil and use it to get people to care.

This whole thing is incredible, but look how his hand is shaking when he points at the guys who are being hassled. He's scared, he's angry, he's pounding with adrenaline, but he's maintaining control of himself and not backing down. He's taking a stand, whatever the cost.

You know people who marched. Have you made an effort to encourage them to get active in different ways, too?
You probably think more direct action is better (me too). Could you encourage anyone to bring their No Kings energy to that work?

I don't want 100 troops sent to Chicago. It's a major escalation that must be opposed. I also want folks to understand that the agents that have been attacking us at Broadview are more heavily armed and elaborately, tactically outfitted than National Guard troops would be. If the nation’s capital can be occupied by the military for entirely make-believe reasons, understand that this can happen anywhere: at schools & universities, polling places, religious spaces, etc. Nowhere that we work, live, & love will be safe if this is allowed to continue.
