A new (and improved) version of the fantastic BES’s reproducible code guide is now live.

Seriously amazing resource for those wanting to produce code that enables reproducible research.

Featuring some SORTEE members and also code review!!

I’m really concerned about early career scientists using generative AI in writing, because writing is how we think and reflect. There’s almost nothing *more* human than that, and to give that gift away to a machine is almost unconscionable to me

You can do this right now:

Think of a person who wrote a paper you love, whose work influenced or helped you, or has made your professional life better.

Search up their email address. Shoot them a quick email of thanks. It means so, so much. This is a rough time of year, share some joy.

I'd love to see more news like this. Two societies with overlapping goals coming together to share challenges and opportunities. That's how progress happens. 🤩
Check the latest blog post about SORTEE's first joint meeting with @improvingpsych.org

Board members from both societies met to explore shared challenges and opportunities for collaborations to strengthen open and rigorous science across fields.

I agree that Google Scholar is noticeably worse and less maintained than it used to be.

Same goes for Google Maps, which feels like a 20 year old car that still mostly runs but has parts fall off of it all the time.
Maybe I'm a bit rusty, but my impression today is that google scholar has gotten worse (returning many irrelevant records), as have the various search engines for the research article aggregators. And then there's the un-beckoned "summary" inserted ahead of the results . . .

Really interesting conversations at #sortee2025 about GenAI and what it means for open science - big points:
-how does it affect existing biases and practices in science?
-how does it affect code reliability, learning, and skill development?
-what should open science communities do to manage risks?
