For the first ~20 years of Feinstein’s life, bananas tasted completely different. The closest modern equivalent I’m aware of is banana runts or banana laffy taffy.

When Feinstein was born, Merriam-Webster had yet to publish their second edition of The New International Dictionary. When they did, in 1934, the words “racism” and “racist” did not yet make the cut as they were so rarely used to describe what at the time was known as “race hatred” or “racialism”.
