The novel of Trainspotting *completely* changed what I thought a novel could say, do and be when I read it in my late teens.

Not to mention that it's still the only book I've ever thrown across the room out of sheer shock at what I was reading.
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"

Wikipedia is worth $10/month because if it dies so does reliable knowledge. Cough up if you can -- it's cheaper, more interesting and morally superior to Netflix.
wikipedia's data shows that AI is siphoning traffic away from the site, which is a danger to its sustainability. ironically Wikipedia is more important than ever to users who want reliable information instead of slop, and to AI companies that need it for training data www.404media.co/wikipedia-sa...

“With fewer visits to Wikipedia, fewer volunteers may grow and enrich the content, and fewer individual donors may support this work.”

Always love the phrase 'the year 2000', like as not to be confused with 'the fridge magnet 2000' or 'the psychoanalytical concept 2000'

My new year's resolution for 2024 was to listen to more albums + keep a diary of what I've heard.

Current count: 116 albums. So naturally I've made a playlist:

Genuinely believe that Wonderful Christmastime might be the most viciously divisive song ever created. It's either your favourite christmas song or a crime against humanity - no in between.
