And in this episode we successfully* interface the @samcoupe.com SAA1099 sound chip via a slightly butchered RC2014 interface.

*OK, so it's not *that* successful because those aren't the notes I'm playing, but I think thats pointing to a software issue rather than a hardware problem like the AY had

Now this is really, really fun! @fuzzweed.co.uk's homebrew 6502 system with some crafty interfacing to drive the 6 channel SAA1099P soundchip interface I released for #Z80 / #RC2014!

Godfrikindamnit. That's been busting my balls. Commenting out one line at a time to get it from 'definitely should work but doesn't' to 'ah, cool works great, but I don't know why'.
Anyhoo, tuning table needs a tweak, but that's full real-time 6 note polyphony.

Thanks for the mention! The hardware I make for #RC2014 and compatibles is a mere fraction of the #retrocomputing stuff I do. My main work is for the #SAMCoupe computer (British Z80 based #8bit micro released in December 1989). 32+ years developing hardware, software and magazines.

I started with BASIC on the #ZXSpectrum 48K in May 1983, upgraded to a + case when the membrane failed. Then a +2 at launch in 1986. Moved to the #SAMCoupe in 1993, fab micro with a brilliant BASIC built in. And there I've stayed, still developing for it. Everything I do: www.samcoupe.com

SAM City... 1 page of SAM Coupe news + reviews, plus 4 pages of SAMCo adverts/news. A nice read. SU also drops two mentions of Lemmings for SAM, it was one of the worst kept secrets but wasn't officially announced for another 18 months or so. We got both Lemmings and Oh No More Lemmings. #samcoupe

Who else stared longingly at Programmers Wanted adverts in magazines or on cassette inlays in the 1980s? Always a dream back then to code games. As a kid with a ZX Spectrum I only tinkered with BASIC and game maker utilities, fearing that machine code would be impossible to learn.

Bad press in SU for the Sinclair Interface 2 upon launch, but in recent times I became very interested in the ROM cartridge format and produced a cartridge that can hold 16 ROM images, which comes preflashed with two games and the ROM version of AGD.

The SAM Coupe has a great keyboard, 72 keys including function/number pad. As membranes fail I released full mechanical keyboards to give the ultimate replacement with a choice of keyswitch types. I also produced a 'Prototype Tribute' keyboard to give your #SAMCoupe a unique look. www.samcoupe.com

(1/2) A crap week or two has taken me away from the fun of #retrodev. I wasn't about to give any Black Friday offers so today & tomorrow (30th/1st) just drop me a message if you're after any of my products and I'll look to perhaps do free postage, throw in a freebie or knock a couple quid off.

My Money Bags trilogy of games on the SAM came from my love of the Jet Set Willy games. I remember my tenth birthday fondly as with the money I received that day I ran to John Menzies to buy Jet Set Willy 2 and the Your Spectrum magazine which had the full map and all the POKEs!

Just pulled out my folder of these old graph paper doodles. With the figures on the left I've also just found a scrap of paper with the info on the LaserBasic sprites file I made with them on my Speccy and I'd dated when last edited it - 9th September 1989!

I was 8 when I was given a 48K ZX Spectrum and starting tinkering away straight away - I can still remember a lot of what I did in great detail. Annoyingly too, I've lost also all of of my graph paper doodles of speccy graphics, not sure where they went but again a few bits survive...

After two years, there was a lot more software for the SAM Coupe. PD libraries and disk magazines served up most of the content, rather than the fledgling SAM publishers of the time. But getting news out would be troublesome due to the cliquey nature of some publications which I'd later discover.
ZX History - November 1991: Crash gives a quick summary of the better SAM Coupe software titles, but it’s two years since the original launch of the machine, and that’s still all of the software it (1/2) #zxspectrum #retrogaming
