I agree with the bad reviews of SAM Coupe software in the SAM Surgeon column in this issue of Your Sinclair, with the exception of The Famous Five as a text adventure is the same regardless of platform really so there's no detriment due it being on the SAM, plus better images than other versions...
Your Sinclair Dec 1990: Amstrad kills off the Spectrum +3 so that it wouldn't affect the sales of its new revamped Amstrad CPC range. More SAM software released, and all get a very bad review in the SAM column. YS (1/2) #zxspectrum #retrogaming

Where I started... Recreation of the very early sort of stuff I did on the ZX Spectrum in 1983 with simple user defined graphics in BASIC... then some of the games I published for the SAM Coupe in the late 1990s ...

I've some more PCB Pin Badges available (SAM Coupe, Commie 64/16/VIC and new Rubber Keyed Speccy) available: www.samcoupe.com/quickshop.htm

They all help add a few extra quid to the development kitty towards the ongoing projects I've got underway for #SAMCoupe, #ZXSpectrum, #RC2014, #Retrocomputing

Finally took the plunge with machine code on the SAM Coupe in 1994 after buying an assembler for half price at a computer show. £14.95 well spent! Took to Z80 asm immediately and the rest is history!

#8bit gene splicing! #C64 SID on #Z80! In 2003 I released an interface to use the #Commodore64 SID soundchip on the #SAMCoupe, in 2020 I released a similar interface for #RC2014 & compatibles (inc #ZXSpectrum via ZX-RC Bus Interface)

I was 8 when I was given a 48K ZX Spectrum and starting tinkering away straight away - I can still remember a lot of what I did in great detail. Annoyingly too, I've lost also all of of my graph paper doodles of speccy graphics, not sure where they went but again a few bits survive...

Ditto. So many from when I was a kid with the ZX Spectrum and tinkering around in BASIC, LaserBASIC and the likes. Binned most of them about 25 years ago, to my constant regret. A couple did survive the cull - a full BASIC game, and some PLAY sound stuff. However, for my 32 years of developing...

This was an enjoyable covertape with Your Sinclair. I loved the #zxspectrum #demoscene stuff - Interlace with it's effects and 128K tunes was brill, and then later Shanghai was a firm favourite when I finally bought my first #SAMCoupe about 4 months after this YS issue was released!

🧵 Have to agree (although at this point I was only watching from the sidelines) that there was so little software support for the SAM Coupe at a year into its life, the pledged support from the major software houses was never to materialise. When I bought my first SAM in 1993 there was a lot more...
Memories of November 1990: Now don’t get me wrong - the SAM Coupe had a hideously low level of support, but there was still a lot of fun to be had in the Public Domain arena. FRED, SAM Supplement, SAM Disk, (1/5) #zxspectrum #retrogaming

Some of the #Hardware I make for the #ZXSpectrum came about from suggestions and requests, such as the 2 way expansion connector to connect two peripherals to the edge connector. Also available: ZX-RC2014 Bus Adapter, Int.2 style Flash ROM Cartridge with 2 games, ROM Interface. 🌐 zx.samcoupe.com

Even MGT's own sales blurb is somewhat confusing!

"48K Spectrum software to run in the Coupe's level 1 mode."

MODE 1 is just a graphics mode to match the ZX Spectrum, with additional wait states to slow the CPU. A ZX Spectrum emulator is still needed, SAM is not natively compatible.

While the SAM Coupe had Manic Miner we didn't have JSW, or JSW2 - my fav! ☹️ So I had to design, code and publish my own games in the same style! 😃 'Money Bags' spanned 3 games over the years. MB1 and 1 1/2 now feature with SAM Revival. Updated re-release of MB2 coming soon.

Even if you're not a SAM Coupe owner and want to help support what I do, there's a few issues of SAM Revival that might be of interest - issue 9 with the legendary SAM version of Manic Miner or issue 11 with audio CD that covers SAM audio. Plus PCB badges and keyrings.

Great to see the ZX-RC2014 Bus Interface in use here to use Robert's RC2014 NES Controller module on the ZX Spectrum!

The Bus Interface gives your #ZXSpectrum two #RC2014 expansion slots and with an optional ZX through port too. Info/Purchase at: 2014.samcoupe.com

It's the final day of the #RetroChallenge so I've written about my finished project.

In this post I explain how I was able to connect my RC2014 NES Controller module to a Sinclair ZX Spectrum, and how I hacked the Manic Miner code so I could use my new module.
