COLBERT, on Rep. Al Green’s removal:

“Some people questioned why so much muscle was needed to remove an old man with a cane. But it turns out it was for a serious reason. When security searched him, they found that he smuggled in a spine."

Shades of the stupid Sen. Proxmire (anyone remember him?): performing outrage but revealing only profound ignorance.
Why is everything so dumb
Trump claimed the Biden administration spent $8 million "making mice transgender." The White House tried to back up this number with records of funding for research into cancer, asthma, and HIV, some of which used *transgenic* (genetically modified) mice.

It's also worth saying that you can't do STEM without reading comprehension and critical thinking!!! Treating the humanities and arts as secondary to STEM is bad for everyone in general, but it's also short-sighted for STEM education.
I teach physics and my wife teaches literature and writing, and we see STRONG parallels between our students here. Physics students need literacy to be able to pick out important pieces of problems and to be able to see common elements across types of problems. It's reading comprehension! 🎢⚛️

Slavery was Legal.

Colonialism was Legal.

Jim Crow was Legal.

Apartheid was Legal.

Legality depends on who has power and the kinds of laws they pass to preserve their own privileges and bigoted views. Legality often has nothing to do with justice.

From merits brief of USA filed in Trump’s appeal from denial of immunity claim:

“The Presidency plays a vital role in our constitutional system, but so does the principle of accountability for criminal acts particularly those that strike at the heart of the democratic process.” 1/n

In other news, Jeffrey Clark makes a desperate attempt to delay GA criminal case against him. Filed a notice of appeal and a motion for stay.

Motion for stay relies on CIVIL procedure rules, not criminal procedure. Dictionary illustration for grasping at straws.

Crazy stuff in the Jan. 6 criminal case against Trump. As others have reported, the Judge gave an additional 14 days to file dispositive motions instead of the requested 60.

But the crazy stuff are the motions to intervene. Unheard of in criminal matters. See Doc. Nos. 81, 83 and 84.

Evidently being President gives you “Immunity” from criminal acts. Here’s his motion to dismiss the Jan 6 case.

So Trump decided not to attempt removal of the GA prosecution to federal court. Why?

I think it was the justified fear that he would have to testify, and be subjected to cross examination.
