This is exactly my philosophy. There has to be joy in the writing.
Unsolicited writing advice, no. #1616:
In a world in which the average writer earns only £7000 a year, be sure why you want to do this. If it's to make a fortune, or hang out with famous people, or to be famous yourself, forget it. It isn't a lottery. It's a slog. Only joy makes it worthwhile.

And another favourite line from @sallymalcolm.bsky.social. The Last Kiss!

Harry watched him, chewing on one lip. “Do you remember it, then? When you were hit?” When I kissed you. “I hoped you wouldn’t.” (p. 73)
FIVE STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Can relate!
I've just paid my tax so please disregard any further political communication from me for the rest of the day. This is the brief annual 24 hour period in which I become a dyed-in-the-wool libertarian and occasionally weep while whispering 'my money my lovely money'.

When the kids were little, Tom started making a gingerbread house each Christmas. He’s still at it! This year it’s a church complete with choir. I think it’s pretty good!

I miss Father Christmas. You don’t hear him mentioned much these days. It’s all Santa this and Santa that…
Often associated with Santa, Father Christmas is actually much older than the modern incarnation, going back to the 1400s. A figure for adults that involved merriment, feasting, and gift-giving, Father Christmas was outlawed by the Puritan's brief ban on Christmas #FolkloreSunday

Definitely made more selling direct through Amazon than with trad publishers.
I love indie bookstores, but saying online vendors like Amazon only financially support "some billionaire" is BS. Many authors depend on e-book royalties for their living. Ordering print from indies benefits the store, yes, but what's the author making vs. a corporation like HarperCollins or PRH?

lol yes, this!
It’s nice to have ninety different platforms where we have to ensure we are sharing different things specifically for each.

Keeps me from having to do any of that pesky “write things to sell for food money” stuff.

I just found out that around 20% of the neanderthal genome still exists today in living people!!

No individual person has more than 3 or 4% but we don't all have the same bits. If you add up all the bits we've found, about a fifth of the Neanderthal genome is still present on earth today.
