I misread this image so badly that I can only really hope to illustrate what I saw.

( Also a good excuse for an #art study )

Christmas Eve for us is tamales and chili (and Muppet Christmas Carol), and Christmas Day is coffee cake and all-day snacking, no big meals or hard work.
My ex and I started making hot wings, after we made a Christmas trip to Seattle and got snowed in and one of the only places open was a wing joint.

We'd each make a batch with our own flavors, and share. Can recommend.
it fascinates me how most everyone in the U.S. does turkey for Thanksgiving, but we are all over the map as to what we eat for Christmas (as is proper for a hugely diverse nation).

I come from a Christmas prime rib roast family, myself.

Hmm... Booted up my Steam Deck and it's boot-looping and, when it does eventually load, the UI crashes. Looks to be a DeckyLoader issue, but unsure what/where... great.

One of my favorite things is getting to tell friends who are new to NYC that the subway "stand clear of the closing doors please" voice is a trans woman named Bernie Wagenblast and she's amazing.

This weekend I learned about Real Tennis and how it's almost extinct but there's lots of camaraderie and honestly this is a sports anime waiting to happen

This easy loaf pan focaccia has consumed me. Made one in a glasslock in the toaster oven to see if it's easier, and made one with confit garlic, basil, and dehydrated bruschetta. They're in the ovens, excited to see how they turn out!
Made a second one because it was super easy and tasty. The first one got demolished pretty quickly, we'll see how long #2 lasts
Made a loaf pan focaccia today and it honestly rules? First time I've made this bread, and between how easy and the size/form factor this is gonna be in regular rotation this fall. yum yum yum bread bread bread

It’s widely known (and, I think, pretty uncontroversial) that learning requires effort — specifically, if you don’t have to work at getting the knowledge, it won’t stick.

Even if an LLM could be trusted to give you correct information 100% of the time, it would be an inferior method of learning it.
Relying on ChatGPT to teach you about a topic leaves you with shallower knowledge than Googling and reading about it, according to new research that compared what more than 10,000 people knew after using one method or the other.

re: roblox dude's interview crashout. the thing he wants to say but can't is "at scale, kids are gonna get hurt. that is the price for scale." the thing nobody wants to say out loud is "maybe scaling to a level where harm isn't manageable is bad, and scale should be contained"

The officer was "heading for duty" Wednesday night when his "weapon discharged and he accidentally shot himself in the testicles" in the station's parking lot, records show.

Okay, we're giving Zorin OS a go. We'll see how my partner likes/enjoys it (she seemed cool so far) but we're officially off Windows for our personal use. Tired of this dumbass AI pivot, and we're gonna try to vote with our wallets.

Update update: Ventoy does not in fact rule.
Update: Ventoy rules, and now I'm trying live USB or Zorin OS. Will see what she thinks tomorrow, and then try Mint.
Replaced my folks' laptop when they came to visit this summer, and I've now cleaned and upgraded RAM on their old one, and shrunk their C: partition down. Going to use it as a mini Linux lab so my partner can investigate and see if she likes using it

We are switching laundry pods (the ones we used are discontinued) and my partner grabbed these Tide XL ones that are friggin gigantic, like each one could feed 2-3 millennials. Which in this economy, we need.
