I mean, we only figured this out 70 years ago...
It’s still a goal of mine to help make this the most famous, well-known and UNDERSTOOD quote about cities in history.

Please share it as much as you can.

New analysis of relationship between car weight and fatal collision rates in the UK finds “ppl driving heavier cars are disproportionately involved in more fatal collisions”.

Particularly the case for those involving other cars or pedestrians.

Utrecht's inner ring road transformed into a vibrant city boulevard.

The city converted the busy traffic road into a safe road with greenery, with priority to sustainable means of transport.

“Over many years working with cities at all points in that learning curve, I’ve developed a simple conversation starter that I call the “5 steps toward better cities.” I’ve found it can help break the ice around how to improve, if people are really honest about where they’re starting from.”

5 steps to making better cities

“A car-choked capital is transforming before our eyes, the dream of urbanites around the world who are eager to reassess the automobile’s dominant role in the city. The question posed by [Paris] transcends the daily debate over bicycles & cars. It is nothing less than this: Who is the city for?”

Bike-lanes are a sound public health investment.

Very high danger levels on these crossing points, several near misses reported.
Always knew these junctions were massively wide in Salthill, it wasn't until some dope came flying around the Dalysfort junction one last night while crossing the road it makes you appreciate just how ridiculously wide they are and really need tightening

This is good but some small improvements would help. Both crossings should be Zebras, it’s hard to understand why not. Overall this scheme shyed away from putting bollards on the footpath at Scoil Fhursa where there is daily footpath parking and made too many concessions.
New crossings at junction of Sea Road and the Crescent in Galway City. The turning radius here used to encourage motorists speeding. Now they have to slow down when turning - reducing danger for the many schoolchildren and other people in the area.

More good work from Galway City Council👏

In cities where there isn’t likely to be investment available for badly needed service improvements AND free fares (sadly, that’s MOST cities), I strongly prefer strategic ridership-focused SERVICE IMPROVEMENTS, along with reasonable fares (and free fares for under 18, over 60, and low income). 3/

Here’s an old clip from RTE where a lawyer mentions in passing that Councils are obligated to grit footpaths. Anyone know what the basis might be for that? Any relevant laws or cases?

We’re gonna salt a few Galway city footpaths tomorrow evening. Can you suggest the highest priority spots?

Steep places near schools or other high traffic areas where walkers and wheelers might fall.
