Had a revelation this week at work that one thing we're trying to do is very similar to the problem of determining someone's life expectancy.
And of course there's a Python ML library, scikit-survival, that's fully compatible with the scikit-learn pipeline we're using. I love the modern world.

Amazing that we manage to have school capacity problems despite a falling population. Probably the bad German habit of dividing kids early into different education tracks.
The Gesamtschulen seem to have the greatest capacity problem.

Political sanity slowly starting to return to France. A few months after the governments promised to allow a vote on the budget (instead of forcing it through with the infamous article 49.3 of the constitution) the mainstream left is recognising the need for a formal deal with the macronists.
The small town German healthcare experience is the goddamn hospital saying "sorry if it's not an emergency we don't take new patients". So I have to shop around for small clinics with weird opening hours?

My partner was trying to check out DB jobs in my computer, and the website was outright refusing to show its German version? Kept reverting to the FR version, which doesn't show any jobs. She could work around it in the end but damn is it annoying when the computer thinks it knows better than you

If you survey residents of a rich neighbourhood, you'll find that they're not particularly rent burdened: they earn enough to cover the costs of living there. It's obvious why: if you're poorer it's not worth spending an outsized share of your income to live there.

I think it's well established that rail gets more public transport ridership than buses, controlling for speed and reliability.
This is explained by motion sickness being more common in buses than trams.
What bugs me: if you get motion sick in a bus don't you get also motion sick in a car?

Today we wanted to take the 11:39 Dortmund-Paderborn, operated by the National Express. The train didn't show up and there was no information about it for at least 20 min and we gave up. It would turn out to be 1h late.
