Read every word & share with everyone you know. This is real life here in Chicago. Americans need to know this grotesque reality & stand with us.
Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

If they're that pissed, it's time to publicly call for Schumer to go. Otherwise, we don't believe you.
NEW: House Dems — left and center — are furious about the Senate deal.

"People are pissed," one told @axios.com

Another said there is "near universal frustration."

There's renewed chatter about backing Senate primary challengers — incl. against Schumer. www.axios.com/2025/11/10/d...

Win SNAP legal fight. Get an ACA vote in Dec. If no vote or it fails, shutdown Jan. 30. Everybody gets to go home for the holidays. Midterm messaging: (affordability) They don’t give a damn ‘bout you and yours.

This is what desperation sounds like. Do it big boy.
Trump: "It's time for Republicans to do what they have to do and that's terminate the filibuster ... we should start tonight with 'the country's open, congratulations,' then we should pass voted ID, we should pass no mail in voting ... you go to a grocery store, you have to give ID."

I will say it again, the best part about Prop 50 is that California did it with the power and the confidence of its people.

Texas did it in secret, away from public view and from the orders of the thug rapist in the Oval.

Fair maps for all, until we have a Congress that represents all of us.

Hearing NBCs Kristen Walker say democrats could learn “too many lessons” from tonight reminds me of why I haven’t watched any major news outlets in a year.

this is genuinely wild
Looks like the Dems will pick up 12 seats in the VA House of Delegates, which will go from 51-49 to 63-37 D-R. That's an honestly shocking result.

Moskowitz: We need $30 billion to extend, obviously, these healthcare subsidies, which allow Americans—Americans, not illegal—Americans, citizens, to afford healthcare.

And the president’s like, “We don’t have $30 billion, but I am going to send $40 billion to my dear friend in Argentina.”

Our monthly premium for our plan is going from the current $333.79 in 2025 to $2,310.89 in 2026.

A 700% increase.

It's one thing to be politically divided into red states and blue states. We are now being militarily divided into red states and blue states. It's crossing the Rubicon, a bright-red flashing warning that the constitutional order is coming unglued, in a way that will have monumental consequences. /x

To reiterate: this wasn't done even at the height of the civil rights era and massive resistance, when no doubt the bulk of those state's Guard units were themselves racists and segregationists. But they weren't treated as disloyal. There was no notion they would refuse the president's orders.

In none of these cases, when the federal government was openly and with good reason using military force, did Eisenhower or JFK or LBJ say "ok, we're sending the Vermont National Guard to Mississippi to handle this." That would have been understood as insane, it wasn't even considered.

The headline here is “Hegseth announces changes that will protect domestic abusers in the military.” Even though this is incontestably true, no news organization will use this headline, because telling the truth is deemed impermissible if the truth hurts the right too much
Hegseth: "We are overhauling an inspector general process that has been weaponized, putting complainers and poor performers in the driver seat. We are doing the same with the equal opportunity policies. No more frivolous complaints, no more anonymous complains ... no more walking on eggshells."

Yes, this is what a dictator says.

yeah, this is hegseth straightforwardly announcing that it is free play time for bigots in the ranks. and together with his comments on standards, he clearly wants to purge as many women, black and brown people as he can from the armed services. a white man's military.

Here’s the thing: rights ultimately protect all of us or none of us. Freedom exists for all of us or none of us.

The urge to carve off communities one-by-one — a little off the trans flank here, a little off the Black side there — leads down a road to freedom being demolished for all of us.
i took a stab at editing ezra klein’s most recent comments about trans people and electoral politics to make a point often lost by the american liberal commentariat
