a summertime retrospective in honor of Feelin’ Chill Friday 😎…..
three episodes in to I LOVE LA and like…the thing with making a show about the most repellent, vapid, dead-behind-the-eyes characters i think i’ve ever seen is that you need to balance that out with compelling motivations, interesting (or any!) inner lives, and/or actual jokes to make it work?

had a front-row seat in NV to this guy’s grotesque campaign finance experiment of drowning overworked low-info voters in $100 million of ads, sucking up oxygen for most non-billionaire candidates, winning a ton of votes, then immediately telling them all to fuck off for the last 6 years, so 🍅🍅🍅

idk i just think that, say, the Zohran campaign offers us a very compelling and issue-specific road map forward that doesn’t rely on making the political process actively crueler and dumber and more childishly vulgar to galvanize people!!!

guy who didn’t see WICKED onstage until late 2021 so the strongest emotional connection he has with the material is seeing the first film in a catatonic post-election depressive fugue state circa November 2024……

2024 was the FIFTH consecutive election in which the party in power (GOP in 2008/2020, Dems in 2012/2016/2024) did worse than it had four years prior, one of many reasons i was so maddened by the poli sci dweebs who insisted that we keep Biden because of “incumbency advantage”!
I think this finding from our Oct. Strength In Numbers/Verasight poll was overlooked, and should shift some of the conventional wisdom about why Harris lost in 2024 and what the Dem. Party needs to do to win in 2026/2028. Anti-incumbent bias on the economy is underrated substack.com/@gelliottmor...

not necessarily my place to chime in on for obvious reasons but it is hard to imagine anything more guaranteed to prevent a woman President from ever being elected than for this insanely self-defeating attitude to become widely accepted as a fact!!!
Michelle Obama says “don’t even look at me about running” because the United States isn’t ready for a woman President:

“We ain’t ready. That’s why I’m like ‘don’t even look at me about running’ cause you all are lying. You ain’t ready for a woman. So don’t waste my time.”

Many of his comments this year suggests he consumes a ton of popularist content and very little pointing out the many flaws in that thinking. I assume his peer group is the audience that consumes popularist content, so he would need real intentionality to get other perspectives.
This is a straightforward Republican attack line, what the fuck is he doing

framing social issues as a Democrat led initiative instead of a weird Republican obsession, is frankly irresponsible and Pete does it a lot.

also progressives (like Mamdani and others) have been running on the issues Pete talks about here but the party (and Pete) will barely support them.
Speaking at a Texas Tribune Festival on Friday, former U.S. Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg criticized the Democratic Party for failing to reach everyday Americans, arguing that it “got sucked in” to a conversation about identity. #TribFest25

at this point the ratio of pundit-brained hacks like this one loudly whining about the hopelessly woke, identity-obsessed Democratic Party to any actual living figures in the Democratic Party being hopelessly woke and identity-obsessed is like….100 to 1? 1000 to 1? more?!

i know it can be a bit played out to fixate on this particular outlet but like….i really do not remember this tenor of coverage when the now-oldest President in history picked a 39 year-old two years removed from being Peter Thiel’s intern to serve as Vice President of the United States!!!
