Check out @editorialboard.bsky.social and John Stoehr's concept of #RespectableWhitePeople. Goes a long way to explain this phenomenon.

yup
Anyone who uses the language of business when talking about government is, at this point, a dishonest looter and should be loudly and repeatedly mocked

In 1993 in Maryland a former elementary school named after Roger Taney was renamed after Thurgood Marshall.

Get the irony?

In the Dred Scott decision denying us citizenship Taney wrote Black people had no rights the white man had to respect. Marshall + team in the Brown decision beat Jim Crow.
If you see John Roberts in person, be sure to tell him he’s a worse Chief Justice than Roger Taney (pronounced “tawny”). That’s a nerd burn that will hit him where it counts.

In sixth grade I used the word "stolid" in a paper and my teacher marked it as a spelling error, then accused me of cheating when I tried to argue, so I like to put it into each of my books as a cute little fuck you to that lady.

This is cool
As evening comes, the wind strikes the snow from a mountaintop, sending the frost whirling heavenward before the setting sun ignites the flurry with the colors of fire.

The sun refracting through wind-whipped snow can set the mood for travel in #fantasy #writing.

Last month, I participated in an event called Ignite Carroll, part of the national Ignite series, where a speaker has five minutes and twenty slides to share a topic. I took a stab at it and it went well, though I was clearly outclassed by many of the other speakers who gave much more polished presentations. My challenge was my topic, a sprawling tangle I tried to tame in five minutes.

Parents, please check your kids’ candy this Halloween. I’ve just found an ancient metal whistle with the inscription “QUIS EST ISTE QUI VENIT" inside a Snickers bar. I blew it and heard a note of infinite distance, and now I’m haunted by a figure in pale, fluttering draperies. Be safe.
