If you have the time and resources, and use your best judgement, don't just give money to an unhoused person. Take them to a restaurant, give them a meal, have a chat. This humanizes the unhoused person and your life will never be the same. I've done this several times.

At the end of the day, the Black Lives Matter era was about whether people should be killed in the street, and lots of people decided yeah and put those little blue flags on their cars. It spread to everyone because it stopped for no one.
