dude i burned the FUCK out of my hand taking pizza out of the oven last night and it like legit melted a hole in the top bit of skin on my knuckle but. it doesnt hurt at all...... unsure if that is good or bad .........

Something I've been thinking about for years now. It first occurred to me when I realized that melodrama isn't meant to exaggerate emotions, but to render them in fiction as we experience them internally.
Howard Brenton says the magic in his plays - Churchill rising from his coffin to speak, that sort of thing - isn't there to make his plays more theatrical but more real. The difference is crucial but takes thinking about.
