Mostly a lurker. I rarely post because I don’t typically have much of value to add to the discourse. My favorite feed is Cat Pics!

Okay @erinbiba.bsky.social it’s time for my second-most anticipated annual thread: Cats in Christmas Trees (and Battling Menorahs). Starting off strong with Donut.

Hi authors! Please remember to file a claim!
AI advocates have warned that if every author in the class action filed a claim, it would "financially ruin" the entire industry.
Authors celebrate “historic” settlement coming soon in Anthropic class action
Advocates fear such settlements will “financially ruin” the AI industry.

It’s telling that Walz is “redefining” American masculinity. The guy’s a stereotypical macho man—veteran, hunter and football coach—but the fact that he’s also a nice dude makes it a paradigm shift.

He isn’t known for his knitting skills. We’ve just come to associate masculinity with being a dick.

If you're reading these posts and wondering what exactly everyone means by "regulations" and "comments," I'll put a mini-explainer in this thread.

Congress passes laws, right? And so do state legislatures and local equivalents (city councils, etc.). But there's more to law than legislation.
I've complained about this before but I didn't know about the comment process until I became a reporter. And I think it's an indictment of political reporting about how rarely they will reference potential regulations without 1. linking to the federal register 2. mentioning public comments
I read every comment that came in on my stuff. When the government has a “request for info/comment” about a pollution rule or whether the FAA should strengthen rules on how airlines shouldn’t damage wheelchairs (open for comment until 6/12 btw: www.regulations.gov/document/DOT...), use your voice!

The law requires hospitals to give you an itemized bill. But these days they will play every possible game to not actually send it to you. My frustrating personal story in @thedailybeast.bsky.social www.thedailybeast.com/getting-an-i...
Getting an Itemized Hospital Bill Is Basically Impossible
How a minor bike accident and a few stitches turned into thousands of dollars in medical bills and a months-long quest for a straight answer from somebody—anybody.
