My takeaway from visiting SF is that people who take Waymo instead of BART need to be taxed significantly more.

Maybe next time Justice Thomas is in Bali he can notice why the air quality is so bad and why you can't drink the tap water there.

It's been really crazy watching the TOEFL ads change from "study in the US" to "visit Canada and New Zealand!"

Impossible to communicate to people that once you decide that a group more vulnerable than you can be sacrificed in the name of your own safety or interests that you have already entered into an tacit agreement that you can also be sacrificed in the interests of a group less vulnerable than you.

Thinking about just how many things (especially in Pittsburgh, but also around the world) are named for Andrew Carnegie.

Or how everything near Troy, NY is named for Russell Sage

Both were scumbags, but they also have colleges named after them.

American academia and research is going to get so screwed by this.
They’re both very evil and very stupid

Foreign students are the only people who pay full price for undergrad at my alma mater (unless you are v rich and dumb) and plenty of schools use masters degree programs as ways to make bank off immigrants who want degrees from US institutions.

This is how you ruin higher Ed in America

Some Utah students have not been given an explicit reason for why their visas were revoked. In some cases, the stated reason has been a criminal record check, but others have simply been “failure to maintain nonimmigrant status.”

Colleges across the U.S. are reporting that some of their international students are unexpectedly having their visas revoked by the Trump Administration.

A gay man saved me thousands of dollars after the Delta Cloud strike incident because his sexual orientation doesn't matter, just the fact that he was a pretty good Secretary of Transportation.
nothing has ever been vindicated as much as woke has been vindicated in the last week

The best way to make subways safer is to have more people riding them. It is WAY scarier to be the only person on a train platform or in a subway car than to be one of many.
Sean Duffy: "The truth is, transit across America is dangerous. And these liberals -- liberal mayors -- they want everybody out of cars and into trains but they made the trains unsafe so nobody really wants to ride them ... even big men don't want to ride the subway at those times of night."

Don't fly Scoot. I know the prices are tempting, but they both have ridiculous policies and actually enforce them. It's not worth it.

My solution to this is always walking to the grocery store. If you have to carry it all home, you never buy more than you can carry.
when it comes to groceries, I don't care if it's 15 bags, I will say it out loud that "I will only take one trip" with the same conviction as "I will fight for those who can't fight for themselves"

We reported on this a few days ago, but I want to point out this headline because this is where we are at.

A bill in Arkansas would ban gender affirming HAIRCUTS for transgender youth.

HAIRCUTS.

This is a straight up North Korea state sanctioned hairstyle proposed law for youth.
GOP bill could ban hairdressers from giving gender-nonconforming haircuts to minors - LGBTQ Nation
The bill would allow anyone to sue someone who affirms a young person's transition, and it specifically mentions hairstyles.

One of the bigger culture shocks in Indonesia is that kids learn the phrase "Hello Mister" in school as a way to greet white people, but they don't learn that it's specifically for men.

-not all jews support israel
-criticizing israel is not the same as being antisemitic
-being pro-palestine does not equal being pro-hamas
-arresting someone for being pro-palestine is a violation of the first amendment
-violating someone’s first amendment rights is bad
