Increasingly bikepacking and urban hiking over the last few years. Have now finished two hikes circumnavigating Lake Washington. This fall, I’m planning to walk the Thames Path (185 miles over ~15 days).

i gave a talk at AIA seattle's transformative housing symposium on what social housing in seattle could look like...

it was an opp to talk about how bad TOD in the US is, and how seattle's building and zoning codes - while better than most of the US - are pretty bad for producing high quality homes

Building a garden shed (only 3’ x 10’) and it has me pretty drained after working a few hours during the day. I’m learning a bunch as I do this. First time framing a wall, etc…
My respect goes to people who do construction for a living.

Doing some coding this morning…working on export to spreadsheet from multifol.io site.

The site lets you slice and dice your portfolio in different views (by tax type, by account, etc)

Trying to see how much of that I can do in a data driven spreadsheet.

“We cannot build bananas in America.” Video clip worth watching.
DEAN: What's the tariff on bananas?

LUTNICK: Generally 10%

DEAN: Walmart has already increased the cost of bananas by 8%

LUTNICK: If you build in America, there is no tariff

844 people signed in — almost all PRO — for @staterepjuliareed.bsky.social's bill 1837 directing WSDOT to speed up development of passenger rail service on Amtrak Cascades corridor. If you are in WA and have not signed in PRO, sure would be cool to get that to 1,000

Love this. “Proud Boys” trademark no longer owned by the racist organization. Won by a church that the group had vandalized.
Judge rules that Black church in DC, which won a $2.8 million default judgment against the Proud Boys, now gains control over the trademark “Proud Boys.” The far-right group is barred from selling any related merchandise or symbols without the consent of the church. Gift link:

Just received:

Sunday afternoon decided to go lift at Y. Walked to nearby B line transit stop. Decided to go to downtown Seattle Y b/c the train/bus was a bit faster at that moment than train/walk to bellevue Y.

Anyway, enjoy the slow travel to the Y, catching up on reading and listening to interesting things.

To put a finer point on it:

If you want a Trader Joe's in your community but you don't want to allow housing that a Trader Joe's employee could afford to live in, you're an advocate for traffic creation.
Yup. And they are already driving into our communities to work. We've got their cars, we should welcome the rest of them too.

We just need more policy makers who get it.
